A titanium M6 bolt is a little bit lighter.

But I need a hollow titanium bolt and I found some on Ebay made by RISK. They came in a cool looking jewlery box too. Made me tingle inside. :unbelievable:

One tip for using your own bolt with these Schmolke clamps is making sure the M6 bolt is not too long. If you are not careful and the bolt is too long, you will tighten the bolt directly into your carbon handlebars which will cause it to crack. Thus, I had to shorten these titanium bolts by about 1mm and almost started a fire because titanium does not like power tools. I saved around 11 grams in the end.

@spdntrxi - LOL....I did not even realize that. Probably one of the worst names a company can use for light weight after market parts. Almost as bad as marketing a line of components labeled "CRASH"

Those hollow Ti bolts are trick, I got something similar for my stem too. Wonder if it would really be a good idea to use these in such critical places as shifter clamps and disc calipers.

You got 18mm bolts?

Yes they are M6 x 18mm. I am not too worried with these bolts because they are made of titanium. I would definitely be concerned if they were aluminum. The only issue is galvinization between the Ti bolt and Ti shift clamps. I was sure to use plenty of TiPrep on the bolt threads.

I have to do a little tuning. Carving out material from a top cap will not do anything for performance. The Tune topcap is meaty. The logo also needs to come off. I do like that it is UD and will match the Ax Lightness stem.

Stock Tune Aluminum bolt vs nylon bolt vs Schmolke carbon bolt........The nylon bolt prevails.

It matches. But wait, those silver titanium bolts are annoying to the eye.

I won't be able to ride and stare at those distracting silver bolts. They will reflect from the sun and blind my eyes causing me to crash. I had to replace them with black titanium bolts. The four face plate bolts are M4 x 20 and the two steerer tube bolts are M5 x 20.

@RyanH - but there is a girl on the top cap and that will distract me while riding like the silver bolts. :D

The Schmolke bar plugs look cool and match the handlebars. It almost looks like one piece. I got the option "no bar tape" when I purchased these. I may leave the drops tapeless but that defeats the purpose of making a comfortable/rideable bike. If I start steering in that direction someone please tell me to stop!!!! Don't let me turn this into another hang it in the garage and stare at it bike.
