Fat Diaries: Day #4
I decided to take off anything I could easily get access to and weigh it. Man this is bleak.
Top Cap and Bolt:
Alabarda Stem Wedge:
Front Thru Axle:
Rear Thru Axle:
Front Bora 50 Disc with 25mm Vittoria and H11 Rotor:
Rear Bora 50 Disc with Rotor and Chorus 11-29 Cassette:

Super Record replacement with Token lock ring:
An enormously long chain due to OPSW:

Seatpost Wedge:
Why.... The heaviest non functional cover in the world:
Off comes the OPSW:
Standard Super Record Cage:
SRM Origin ended up being heavier than expected. It's roughly 515g without rings vs my THM SRM was 460g:

Ooooh, more Ceramic Speed goodies:

@pdlpsher1
I think so, only because I've never seen them before.
@liam7020
I'll take come better shots with my real camera hopefully over the weekend before I head out on my work trip.
@themidge
Nice try...
Regarding the weight, on paper I could theoretically get this down to 6.5kg without going too nuts (so glepore's guess was right). Going all out while keeping the module (frame, fork, stem and seatpost) mostly intact, I think one could possible get it down to 6.3 or 6.2kg or maybe even 6.1, but that would require 845g Ax Lightness 24T wheels (not aero) but also almost 500g lighter by themselves.
I think the Ax Lightness 38T are a good fit for this bike. They were designed with CFD so at least they have /some/ attempt at being aero and they weigh a scant 1020g while being 26mm wide. I think those, along with a handful of other tweaks I have in mind would at least get me down to sub 6.8kg. I mean, common, I can't own a bike that's UCI legal.

Already one step ahead of you:

Or just call it a loss and buy a rim brake XR4?
ryan you use the part to make a mold... you just cover it with a release agent and you might need some putty/clay. You tube is your friend. Search carbon fiber molds.. very common in my import rice rocket days.. I have not done it in years. But if I get a 2019 BMC TMR01, I will be tempted.

Glad that there a soo much places to save some weight. Biggest dissapointment for me are the Bora tubs : Those are boat anchors My complete Roval clx32 clinchers, incl rotors (160F / 140R), DA 12-25 cassette, etc is 2310 gr Even with the SR cassette on it, it's still 100gr more than a well set up clincher set

Yeah, I'm not sure why they ended up being 150g heavier (estimated at 1360g) than the rim brake version, although that seems par for the course with disc wheels.
They're fantastic wheels though, just like the rim brake version.

I hear a lot about how carbon wheels brake acceptably with rim brakes. Is this considered acceptable? How many other disc-skeptics feel the same way about stopping?RyanH wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 10:36 pmThere's a lot of 10-20% grades with stop signs in the middle that I generally just blow through...which is more or less russian roullette because I'm definitely not stopping in time unless I have alloy on that day.
Long story short, I'm viewing my jump to disc as a luxury item, not a necessity. Just a little nicer and convenient braking for my typical weekday rides.
