C60 to R3

Gents,
I know there are a lot of Colnago lovers here but hear me out.
After a very disappointing experience with Colnago and their importer/retailer (they are the same here in OZ) i decided i wouldn't go for that top tier brand and frame. Keen to put 4 years of ownership of a c60 behind me, with a rather bizarre ending, i decided to go for a more underrated yet very capable and reputable frame.
After some discussion with my LBS i decided to pull the trigger on a 2018 Cervelo R3 in a size 56. I did consider the R5 in that classic limited paint scheme but when considering benefits over the R3 i just didn't see the price difference.
As far as the build goes, i transferred over the the Dura Ace R9100 derailleurs and SRM DA 9000 and purchased everything else separately to finish the build off.
here's the list:
Frame: R3 size 56 rim brake
stem: Cervelo 120mm (alloy)
Bars: Deda classic alloy 44cm wide (alloy)
Bartape: Fizik
shifters: DA R9100
Wheels: Mavic Cosmic Carbon SL C (de-stickered)
tires: Specialised Turbo 26mm
Cranks: SRM DA 9000
Bottom bracket: C-Bear ceramic bearings
derailleurs: Dura ace R9100
pedals: Dura ace
Seatpost: Cervelo FSA (will be replaced with no offset post)
Saddle: Specialised power (looking to change too)
Cages: Arundel carbon
Computer: SRM PC8
Weight wise: I'm not chasing KG (heresy on WW forum but it hasn't stopped me from doing well at the race in the past)
7.2KG as you see it in the pic.
I've only ridden the bike a handful of times but i am very impressed with its handling and capability to feel planted yet quite lively on acceleration.
Hope you get to enjoy a humble, non disc, mechanical build as much as i do.
So, C60 to R3 is it a downgrade? I think not!.

Actually, really like the colour. The only thing I would be worried about with the Cervelo is the BB, every Cervelo I've owned (an S5 and a P2) has suffered from a BB that eventually creaks.
I don't see it as a downgrade at all, I went from a C60 to a Chapter2 Tere and have no regrets.

Beautiful! Love that frameset in that colour.
So we've fitted C-Bear ceramic BB bearing cups in there with some decent grease which is hopefully going to do the trick.moonoi wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 11:30 amActually, really like the colour. a mate has a similar set up on his 5 year old R5 with no creaking...
Fingers crossed.

Congratulations on a great looking bike. While not knowing Colnago first hand I struggle to see how this could be a step back.
I’ve had great success with C-Bear in other bikes with “trouble” cranks, so I’m sure it will work in your Cervelo as well.
Incidentally non-disc, mechanical bikes remains my kind of bike, so I fully enjoy the looks of yours

cheers, i feel exactly the same way. Fingers crossed on the C-Bear set up. So far it's proving very smooth quiet and frictionless.happyon2wheels wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 4:26 pmCongratulations on a great looking bike. The Cervelo looks great! The wheels and SRM look perfect for that frame!
But I want to know what the Colnago problems were....
But I want to know what the Colnago problems were....
Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?

Having a negative opinion about a Colnago isn't a popular one, but I too had issues with a C60. Nice upgrade!
It's a bit of long story but this was the catalyst.pritchet74 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 04, 2018 3:45 pmThe Cervelo looks great! The wheels and SRM look perfect for that frame!

the rest boils down to poor customer service from LBS/importer and Colnago. For me that brand is dead and i feel sorry for those who fall for their trap. Im one to appreciate heritage when it adds up to something that truly differentiate a brand from another.
I could go on but i'll leave it at that.
