Let's see how light I can put this together, I'm converting my beloved 2011 Scott Spark from RD/Cassette to IGH, should have this done in a few days and I'll post here final pictures.

Just a quick pic of the WIP with some clues Image

btw...I'm sure this post is a 'hater's bait' by default, so please backup you comment answering if you actually have tried the hub before. :beerchug:

looking to get a hub geared bike as my commuter bike so it'll be interesting to see some WW esque builds using one

Yeah I've gone towards the same questions, I 'think' IGH is overlooked in many ways, so instead of searching online for references I decided to put one together and see If can get performance out of the idea based on low weight and all the good stuff a FS bike can offer.

Sounds good to me too. A 1x vs IGH comparison would be nice.

Yeah I'm looking forward to this. I really want something with Alfine Di2, it's just working out exactly what that bike would be.

Cool!

I used to have this:

But I went back to external gears after a while.

What made you go back? Hub failure?

Until now, I never really found a good justification to use Di2 shifting on Cassette/RD, I always found overkill to add complexity, batteries, high dollar onto something that is hanging outside the bike, fragil and prone to failure, than I tried the Di2 on Alfine. Check out this shifting speed comparison:

Between 0.7s and 0.8s to shift up or down on a 8speed setting (I made this video)...so is safe to assume about 1s on a 11 speed setting.

Between 2.5s and 2.9s on a Dura Ace Di2 R9150:

AND....we can do stationary shifting, huge benefit!

That shift speed is crazy fast! The stationary shifting is a huge plus, I've been thinking a commuter bike would be the perfect candidate.

All I'm going to say is rolloff. Otherwise the whole idea is a fine one.

Mind me asking If you know of compelling reasons to rank the Rolloff above Alfine? It seems to me that Rolloff gained popularity because it use to have more gear range compared to the Alfine, but now that they have a 11sp version (higher than a 11-42 cassette) is there anything else superior on the Rolloff? Weigh is similar, same sort of engineering inside, does it handle more torque than Alfine?

I’d say having the Di2 on the Alfine would make it better than Rolloff...also price, Alfine is over 1/3 cheaper!

Playing around, nylon body with carbon cage for the chain tensioner, should be light if this works.

Weight, and the hub just didn't feel right under power. Might have been an issue with the out-of-spec low primary drive.

Can’t quite see on the picture, was that a Alfine or Rolloff?
