Specialized Allez Custom 6.5kg

Hello!

I am not live in mountains, so I build x1 race setup on Specialized Allez Comp 2015 frame 49cm (top of line).

It feels stiff, very light and fast.

Complete weight is 6.550 grams with pedals, and it can be go down by wheels, saddle and rear derailleur (road version) to under 6kg easy, but I like current.
Frame weight is ~1000grams without painting (Specialized paint is so good and fat, its near 200 grams goes down after cleaning frame), fork is standard 360grams without paint

Yes... that would be my guess. I was just looking for confirmation. That also explains the weight difference between this bare frame and mine.

Great looking Allez.

I am the happy owner of a (Keyline color) Allez E5 SW frame and have considered for some time to strip the paint and if the stated reduction of 200g just from the paint is real, this could definitely sway me towards going naked...figuratively speaking, of course.

Also, your frame seems to have a really nice sheen (where Richs' looks more like brushed aluminium), what did you use to strip the paint?

I actually think the finishes look pretty similar.... but it really just all coes down to how much work you want to do after the stripping process. I wanted a brushed look, so I spent a few days using some steel wool to get that look. If you wanted it really shiny, you could easily spend a little moe time with a polishing wheel and compound and make it look almost like chrome.

the same frame as yours
with black parts of headset naked frame weights 1060gr (I didn't remove it)

your Allez absolutely stunning as custom setup of road bike

what did you use to strip the paint?

first I used the paint remover
3 times, it took 2-3 hours

then I used sandpaper to polish and clean the remains of the soil, it took several days
polishing with steel wool took only 1 day, its not perfect at all
I didn't use varnish, after polishing, it's raw alu

but the hardest part was with the carbo fork, because I could not use paint remover
cleaning the fork took a few hard days
I used sandpaper from 200 to 1000, then covered with two coats of varnish (down from 382gr to 360, not the best weight for fork)

I will never try to do it again, but the result is completely satisfied me


The frame is really stiff, light and comfortable enough like good carbon frames.

Thanks man... cool to hear that you were inspored by my build. You did an equally great job. The final build is light.

My frame, bare was 1115g, but it's a size 54 so there's some extra weight there. It went up to 1166 with the S-Works decals and clear coat and the original frame weight was 1250g. I upgraded to an S-Works Tarmac fork and that dropped the fork weight from 391g (cut) to 300g (cut). both forks were cut to same length.

I absolutely love riding mine... I love riding my Venge too, but there's something different and satisfying about the Allez.
