Thanks. I’m 193cm but with a ridiculous inseam. I really like the cannondale geometry- it’s the first bike I’ve had without ridiculous amounts of seat post!

It dawned on me this morning as I was getting ready to ride that the tyres I bought were Corsa Control+ not Corsa G+ .. these are the more robust version of the Corsa G+ and 275g each for a 25!

No wonder the bike came out so heavy. I’ll change them for the G+’s on my Propel tonight. That should save at least 80g!

So based on that it should be 7.570kg once I get the KCNC brakes on. Much better! Then just a few tweaks should get me to my target of 7.5kg, like Dura Ace 9000 cranks or front/rear derailleurs (I keep an eye on eBay).

Very disappointed with Vittoria tyres in terms of their listed weight. My Corsa G+’s are 258-263g. The controls are only slightly heavier!

So with those changed over 7760g was the best I could get (with Garmin mount and cadence sensor)

After a few hundred km of riding and adjustments I have the bike fairly dialled in fit-wise.

I have had a frustrating experience trying to get the shifting quality I’ve come to expect from Ultegra 6800 on my other bikes with traditional cables. Luckily I seem to have found the culprit - seems to have been a faulty cable that fanned out on itself at the cable end inside the shifter causing it to bind. I’ve not seen this happen before. The shifting is much better but I think I’ll have to align the derailleur hanger to get it just right.

As of yesterday it was still 275g over goal weight though (7.5kg), and it was time to start looking at where to trim that from.

First to go was the Vittoria Corsa G+ tyres. They’re great tyres but at ~262g each for a 25mm (claimed 235g) I was disappointed. On went a pair of old Veloflex Master 25’s, spot on the claimed 215g.

I pinched one of the Vittoria latex inner tubes refitting these and decided I ride every day and can’t be bothered with them.
They were 87g each! (claimed 75g) so in went some Vittoria Super Lite butyl inner tubes (92g) porky but robust. I find conti SuperSonics way too delicate.

The only lightweight inner tubes that I get on with are maxxis featherweight but I can’t find them anywhere!

I also cut the steerer tube, trimmed the seat post and swapped out a couple of bolts for Ti.

End weight 7.655kg - much better. I weighed it about 20 times, getting between 7.650 and 7.685 so it’s about that. The kcnc brakes will take 130g off and their scandium stems will take about 60g off so that will get me to my goal weight.

Thanks. I quite like his writings.

I think there’s just as much to learn about philosophy from Douglas Adams though 😂

Hi

Spooky reading your comments about inner tubes - exactly match my experience.

Ive ended up using Specialized Turbo tubes - best compromise I've found between weight on the one hand (70g) vs durability and decent air tightness on the other.

Thanks!! I find they keep pinching on refitting once they’ve bagged out a bit.

I’ll give those a try!

Yeah, I haven't found them too bad. Definitely more robust that the Maxxis flyweight and Conti Supersonic and definitely much less temperamental than latex

I should mention I’ve been riding road for over ten years so I know how to change a tube.

I ran a set of conti SuperSonics once that were fine but in the last few years nothing but trouble with the ultra lightweight butyl tubes.

I was after some KCNC CB9 brakes (220g) when these popped up at a price I couldn’t go past.

168g the pair! Yay. This should bring the weight down to about 7475g, meeting the <7.5kg goal. With a different stem it should be bang on 7.4kg.

I’m very pleased with that for a 63cm aluminium frame with Ultegra and alloy clincher.

Decided to change the stem for a Kalloy Uno 7 degree 130mm stem (128g claimed) to replace the heavy FSA SL-K stem (174g tuned with Ti bolts!) it’s on it’s way.

If the claimed weights are on target that should leave me at around 7415g.

If you find another 5g you should be bang on 7400g ;)
KU 130mm, in fact it measures 125mm, steel and Ti bolts

These hollow Ti bolts are 6.2g, but I'm not sure if these would be safe for big guys. And you'd need a T20 head for your torque wrench.
