If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take to sand the fork down? I'm about to start a similar project and am just trying to get a feel for what I'm looking at. Thanks!

It took at a guess about 3 hours, I knocked the top coats off very carefully with a sharp Stanley knife blade and then used 600-800-1200 grit, wet sanding.

Don’t use anything rougher or you’ll take twice as long getting the scratches out (I tried 400 grit ..)

What a disaster.

My fork (super six) was advertised as 1&1/8” - 1&1/4” in the eBay listing.

It’s not - it’s 1&1/8” - 1&1/2” and this does not fit.

I did not think to check this before stripping the paint.

Does anyone need a super six fork with uncut 295mm steerer?

Thanks

Unfortunately the project is stalled until I sort out a new fork. If anyone needs the Super Six fork I have PM me..

The problem I have being my height and with the 63cm frame I ride is that I need a lot of steerer tube. Even without any extra spacers I need (220 + 15.6 + 40mm) aroun 280mm of steerer tube, making it hard to find forks secondhand.

I am likely going to replace the fork with a 3T Rigida Pro - there are lots of NOS ones from Focus Izalco Team's on German Ebay with uncut steerers. 395g painted ..

Have got the headset and the Ti bolts for the deraileur hanger and seatpost now. Also a carbon top cap and FSA carbon 13mm tapered spacer.

My fork has sold so I should be able to get the new 3T Rigida fork within the next few weeks.

I’ve changed my aero bike over to an integrated bar and stem this freeing up my carbon FSA SL-K cockpit for this build, however I may change the stem for a 130mm as the top tube is a little shorter than my Propel.

I will also need to run a slamthatstem top cap to copy the fit of my Propel.

Here’s where the parts pile is at thus far :

I’m keeping an eye out for Dura Ace 9000 parts to mix and match with the Ultegra 6800 I already have as well. I’ve always wanted to try longer cranks.

Can I ask what year the fork is? Is it the new style straight one?

With the super six fork sold I could finally order the 3T Rigida Pro

It’s NOS from a Focus Izalco Team. 395g uncut. It will get the paint removed and a clear coat.

How's your progress? How did the 3t rigida come out after the paint was removed?

The build is coming along slowly. I got some brakes and a K-edge mount for it today.

The 3T fork is from a 2014 Focus Izalco Max, hence the OEM paint. It came in at 395g with 300mm of steerer and the paint. I will repaint it later.

I have finally written a parts/build list with weights (most actual, a few claimed or guesstimates) and the asterisks are for the bits I still need to buy.

Unless I’m totally off it should come in at around 7.4kg with an average set of 1500g clincher wheels and good tyres and tubes. I’m happy with that given the budget nature of the build and Ultegra components. It’s a good starting point!

Build parts list:

Frame: 2013 Cannondale CAAD10 63cm - 1305g with derailleur hanger

Fork: 3T Rigida Pro - 395g

Headset: FSA C-33 Orbit, FSA 15mm carbon tapered spacer, 1x5mm spacer, top cap - 92g

Expander plug - 40g

Bottom bracket: KCNC BB30 Adaptor - 115g / $62.70 *

Seatpost clamp: Cannondale - 13g w/Ti bolt

Finishing kit:

FSA SL-K compact handlebar 44cm - 235g (claimed)

FSA SL-K stem 130mm -~165g

FSA SL-K SB0 27.2mm seatpost - 211g w/Ti bolts

Saddle: Fabric Tri Race Flat - 180g / $124 + postage (sigma sports) *

Bar tape: FSA Power Touch - 39g / $34.49 + post (wiggle) *

Groupset: Shimano Ultegra 6800

Shifters: 419g / $ *

Front derailleur: braze-on - 86g

Rear derailleur: short cage - 193g

Crankset: 53/39t, 175mm - 694g / $ *

Pedals: Look Keo 2 Max w/Ti spindles - 220g

Brakes: Shimano Ultegra 6800 - 340g

Cassette: Shimano Ultegra 6800 - 11-28 - 251g

Chain: KMC X11 SuperLight - 237g / $47 + postage (chain reaction) *

Cables: Alligator i-Link - ~80g / ~$105 ebay *

Skewers: KCNC Ti - 41g

Subtotal: 5325g with skewers, but without wheels/tyres/tubes

Forgot to add the cages I have for the build - FSA SL-K cages x 2 59g.

So about 7470g for the total with guesstimate ~1500g wheels, 205g tyres and 75g tubes.

What I want is some Reynolds attack carbon clinchers which would bring it down to <7.4kg.

May happen.

eBay carbon top cap

FSA bearings (does anyone know if their SL bearings are much lighter?)

FSA carbon tapered spacer (15mm) and plain 5mm carbon spacer

Ti bolt m6x30

Total 92g I’m sure it could be improved upon.

Fork expander is 40g - definitely changing that later on.

They probably are, the FSA MR042R is 13,82g and FSA MR12RB is 22,63g.
