After a lengthy wait due to Colnago being on holiday in August, my size 58 V2-R has finally arrived.
This will replace my Trek Madone 5.9, and join my Parlee Z5 and custom steel Jonesman.
This bike will be used as an all-round race bike, hence the semi-aero frame. Build weight is predicted just under 6.8kg, with the ability to drop it by over 300g with a wheel swap, lighter saddle and cutting the seatpost.
To some it may seem blasphemous to build a Colnago with anything but Campagnolo, but my other bikes are all Dura Ace, and my wife and sons bikes are Shimano, so in the interest of keeping wheel changes, spare cassettes and chains etc as simple as possible, I opted for Dura Ace.

The frame came extremely well packed, with everything well protected.
On unpacking if the frame and paint were immaculate and very neatly finished.
There was a small box with all the cable guides, chain catcher, instructions (for those that read them)
Interestingly there was even a section of cable housing for the rear derailleur cut to the exact length for a DA 9100 rear derailleur.
The internal sections of the frame seem extremely clean and tidy.
One thing I noticed compared to other bikes is that the derailleur hanger is on the inner surface of the dropout, so that it is firmly sandwiched between the hub axle and the frame.

I think the Bontrager bar and stem on a Colnago is more blasphemous than Shimano... Looking forward to seeing the build but I’d imagine the wheels will be a bit shouty for a stealth black frame with a stealth black groupset. Should be a great bike.

Whats wrong with Duraace on a Colnago? They did it for years in the pro-peleton when Zabel and Petacchi were riding them... Looking forward to the build though I'd definitely swing for the satin red over the matte black.

Thanks for the comments.
@ bencolem - The Bontrager bar and stem came off my Madone. If you read through my post you will see they are on a list of planned upgrades. Money ran out so they will have to do duty for a while.
I’m either going to have them stripped down and clear coated, or replaced with a barstem combo.
I already had the wheels and they only have about 500km on them, so I can’t afford to replace them.
I have a set of FFWD F6R’s with white logos, a set of Edge 1.38’s and a set of handbuilt alloy clinchers in stealth black which I might swap out. For racing the FFWD’s are a great all round wheel, have far better braking specially in the wet, and they are more aero than the 10 year old Edge 1.38’s, which are admittedly 130g lighter. Sometimes in life it’s practicality that wins over.
I’m looking forward to riding this and getting a direct comparison with my Parlee.
Once all the upgrades are done I’m sure it will be a fantastic bike that I’m very happy with [emoji41]
@jimaizumi - I wanted the TNRD but the Australian distributor only brought in 2 size 58’s both in TNBK, and I have a big race in three weeks so I went with the Black on Black with a touch of silver.
The Satin Red is only available as a complete bike at
AUD $11 999.00.

Could You post some photos of the headtube internals? I'd like to see how those holes in the headtube are done internally (if they've somehow thought out the possible water dripping issue).

@mag - sorry but the fork and cabling have already been installed. I had most of the assembly done by by the shop in order to retain the 3year Colnago warranty.

Some quick iPhone pics after my first ride. I will post some better pics soon, and some with my all black training wheels on.
Weight is 6774g, so pretty much what was expected.
Steerer tube still needs to be cut, seatpost can be cut about 10-12cm shorter. I'm also waiting for a YBN Ti chain, Kogel bearings and derailleur pulleys and some black Ti bolts

Well done! I like the pop of color with the FFWD wheels. I too had a pair with the ceramic hubs. Fantastic and under rated wheel. I would put them up against ENVE any day. Enjoy the miles!

I have just ordered one myself but after much persuasion of local rep we have managed to get a satin red frame will be built with ultegra di2 and reynolds assults wheels will be sure to post it up when it arrives
