godzuki26, exceptional attention to detail! based on your experience, is it difficult to strip down & rebuild rear derailleurs, specifically the main body/parallelogram? slightly crossing forums, but I've got some XTR rear derailleurs that have noticeable lateral "play" at the pivots & your posts above, as well as seeing previous pictures of Hopp carbon XTR rear derailleurs have got me wondering..... I must admit weight is less of a concern, as repairing/rebuilding the derailleurs. appreciate any advice :)

@Scant - I am posting this derailleur rebuild in great detail to show that it is not difficult to do. This is my first time doing this (taking out parallelogram pins) as well. I am not a Shimano guy so I have no knowledge on how pins are secured or even if they are easy to get out. My suggestion is to not be afraid and take it apart. Anything you can take apart can be put back together again

@Nifty - I am not a geek. I am an uber geek who sneaks out of bed in the middle of the night to finish building MG Gundam kits behind my wife's back. I have always wondered why the pre 2013 pre YAW RED derailleurs were tuned by many to easily be below 105 grams. If you look at what I have done so far on this RED 22 derailleur, I have removed quite a bit more material than a lot of the 2012 RED derailleurs that are tuned below 100 grams. I have already had 2 attempts at these 2013 or later derailleurs and have not been able to break 110 grams. So, that means that the pre 2013 derailleurs have some lighter parts in them. So what parts are lighter? There is only one way to find out. Are others curious like me too? If nobody is curious, I won't waste my time taking apart another derailleur and posting the weights. Please let me know.

Scant, maybe have a look or contact someone like Kai Greene, he has done alot of mod work on lots of derailleurs and has worked with Hopp as well.

The fact it's been manufactured that way rather than tuning, means you won't be breaking any fibres to get the desired weight/shape. I remember @Theremery had a dremelled cage break on him. So this way could be advantageous, but obviously doesn't necessarily guarantee it's up to the task. Saying that, it'll most likely be ok! Has someone tested it? Where did you get it? And most importantly... what's the weight?!

Oh, and yeh I do preder its aesthetic.

As mentioned earlier, I am extremely curious on the weights of a pre 2013 non YAW RED deraillur vs a RED 22 derailluer. Why can people tune the older RED derailleurs to a lighter weight? Let's compare shall we.

To start off, they are both almost identical in weight.
