Colnago C60 SR Build - 7KGs - New Enve and Tubular Goodness

Well, my new wheelset arrived. Fitted to a showroom bike and never used, unfortunately they have been taped and this bike is getting used around a crit circuit for training once a week so I’ve been glueing all day!

Came with Vittoria Corsa G+ in 25C measuring bang on 25mm

Fitted a brand new Campy SR 12-27 for this wheelset

Very excited to see how they ride compared to my other wheels, never tried tubulars.

Next on order are some Vittoria Pave’s in 27C to get my Zonda wheelset ready for Roubaix.

I’d been using some Edco clinchers but never really liked the look of them on the bike or the ride for that matter.

Next on the to do list is fit a carbon saddle and get some carbon bars to bring me to the 6.9kg mark.

So the new wheels are on, new saddle is also on with a rough saving of about 400grams. Pretty chuffed at the results.

Saddle bought me down 75gs and the wheels 325gs with tyres.

Back on with some cinelli Gel black tape..

Looks a ton better too!

I’ll be going tan walls for the summer, 25C as well in Corsa Gs.

Had a bit of a nightmare when indexing gears and applying way too much force to my shifters:

Anyhoo, split the levers apart and re-fitted with an entire new RH SR lever mech. Only about £85 in the end which was better than anticipated for a brand new part.

Also managed to snap the rails of the Selle Italia flite:

Hence clear reason to go back to the tried and trusted Toupe S Works I had on my venge.

Going for Vittoria Open Pave 27C on Zonda wheels next for Paris Roubaix in April...

Weight in current setup with Garmin mount, Cadence sensor and speed sensor, two bottle cages 7110grams, but i'm convinced the scales are weighing heavy!

Needing some simple cheaper weight saving tips for the final weight drop below 7kgs.

I'm afraid this is about the most significant weight-saving you can do on this bike.
Offcourse you can go fancy with Lightweight wheels and some exotic german seatpost/handlebar/stem but that will cost you...
Jagwire I-link maight save you some grams?
Maybe some thin handlebartape if you like riding that?
An alloy-scandium KCNC seatpost is very light and not that expensive.

How is the clearance with 27mm tyres? Pretty tight I imagine. You were lucky to find some new Pave's too!

I’ve got the feeling it will be v tight, but as far as I am aware pave’s fit true to size, they are still available out there ordering them later this week.

Are they clinchers, or tubulars? If clinchers, are they going on any kind of a wider rim (17mm or greater internal width)? If so, then you I’m going to say you won’t have enough “useable” clearance to run 27’s. Even a 27mm Vlanderen (tubular and true to size) I wouldn’t run on this frame. Good luck.

Going on Zondas, so C17 clinchers - i'll get them and test, may not fit. But Contis are 27C at 120PSI and fit with plenty of room, been running them like this for a thousand kms or so.

Wow, you can fit Conti 27mm 4000sii’s on there just fine?..., or do you you mean Conti 25mm tires that end up being 27mm when mounted on the 17mm internal width rims?

Yeah, that’s what I thought. While the Contis are rather tall compared to others, it’ll be interesting to see if you can fit any 27mm clincher in there with enough useable clearance left over.

I’m comfortably using gp4000s in 25mm on Fulcrum Quattro carbon wheels. I’ll bring my vernier home from work and measure them. The tyres sit only just wider than the rim. I wouldn’t want anything bigger but it’s certainly not what I’d call too close.

Yup Calnago, understanding is correct, going for 27c or at least to trial, plenty of width for 27c but height could be the issue..

May not work at all but would be good to at least try for c60 owners!

I’d say you could squeeze a couple mm more by going with Chorus calipers but in this case the limiting factor is going to be the rear brake bridge and the underside of the fork crown. I doubt it’s going to work, but please report back to either confirm or show that it works. I’m always interested in the actual experiences, and those are tires I have not tested in 27mm for clearance.

You mentioned on your own c60 thread that 25mm gp4000 on a wide-ish rim is too tight? Maybe I got confused.
