The saddle slipped a bit so it's further back than it should be in this pic, but not by much.

Despite the cranks, the weight has actually gone up to 7.5kg - I think mainly because I went back to the standard Campagnolo skewers over the Extralite Streeters (at 82kg, I don't fully trust them). The pedals won't have made much difference despite the PM capability.

So, the Lightning cranks creaked. Long process of elimination to arrive at that conclusion, but it was the last thing left after a long line of tests. They've been returned for a refund thanks to awesome service from Jason at Fairwheel.

I had in mind to switch back to DA and tubs, and finally got around to that this week:







Just the right balance of gold now I think; and actually I don't think I can be bothered with fancy cranks anymore as the DA cranks suit it really nicely.

The wheels are el cheapo 'Prime' 50mm tubs from Wiggle to tide me over. They were on offer at a silly price and are a respectable weight (1350g) so I took the gamble. They're plenty good enough; and they save me from the idiots trying to sell me 5 to 10 year-old wheels at ridiculous prices!

The Prime wheels turned out to be awful - the brake tracks were glassy smooth in places and rough as sandpaper in others, so the braking was erratic at best.

I've replaced them with a set of Dura-Ace C40 tubulars that I picked up secondhand but unused (ex-team wheels that never got put into the team rotation), which are *sublime*. I even prefer them to the Bora WTO 33s:

Well, I've decided on Shimano - for now, at least!

The gold tape was too much; and I started to find the 12v mechanical rear derailleurs ugly - plus I didn't like running clinchers. When I was reminded of how nice the DA9100 lever shape feels, that sealed the deal.

Really nice, stunning, went very far in his approach for both tube construction mixing material types and tube junction.
This has a lot more “art” part that the recent 15K+ so called art bike from BMC released earlier this week.

The picture from the tube construction has a solid core, is that just for the small diameter tubes?

Very, very nice build.

Completely agree on the C40s. They are not light (I think I weighed them at 1.39 kg). But they are very smooth, plenty stiff and seem quite strong.
