First names only. I have a confession. I'm a weight weenie.....

Gravel road racing is catching on so I thought I would give it a try and I wanted to keep my cost low so I bought a Motobecane Fantom cross bike with Apex on it. Of course I had to dial it in to fit me so a bar, stem, seat post and saddle change was called for. I did my first metric century training ride and with 60 psi in cross tries it beat the snot out of me so I then added a set of Stans 340 comp wheels so I could run tubeless and less pressure. Well then the stock cassette was an 11-32 and where I live it was just not needed so I then got a Red 11-26. At that point I didn't need the long cage Apex rear shifter and could speed shifting up by going short cage so here came the Rival short cage rear derailleur. Did I mention that when I did the bar swap I put I-Links on it too? In the process I took a 10.5 kg bike to under 8.18 kg. I did my first gravel road rave and I was hooked. It came with a FSA Gossemar crank and several times the chain got stuck in between the rings and needless to say that pissed me off since I had to dismount to yank the chain out and this happened in the first race. Otherwise it worked well but that caused the purchase of a Sram Rival cross crankset. It is a canti bike and the stock Tektro Onyx brakes worked very well but as fate has it I came across a deal on a set of Avid Ultimate Shorty brakes. Then came gravel road race two. Once again the bike was great. It handled well on the gravel and I hit 47 mph on a long loose gravel descent. So after all this I have the fork, headset, frame, front derailleur and shifters from the original bike. I was pretty happy with it.

Like many of us I browse Ebay here and there and noticed a frame that was in my size brand new and never built. It was a carbon Sette CX -1 frame and fork, Pricepoint house brand, that performance is closing out for $699. The seller relished and I grabbed it on a buy it now for less than half the close out price shipped. The frame and fork came in last Friday. Its a beautiful frame and fork and the fork was advertised at 510 grams and came in uncut at 513 grams. The frame was advertised at 1150 grams and came in 1150 grams on the nose. Since the seat post and front derailleur are not the correct size when I swap everything over it will leave the shifters left from the original bike. Ever been there?

Michelin Mud 2. Since I'm doing gravel road races and I don't have the 33mm restriction thinking about something in the 35mm range. My last race included a few big sections of single track. I was surprised how well a cross bike climbed steep long single track.

The pictures to follow. Only grabbed a few with my iPhone and I'm waiting for a few bits to come in to transfer the parts to the new frame.

You're a sick man when only the shifters remain. Normally the seat collar, brakes and FD last longer.

Like what you're doing though.
