what a great frame, favorite paint scheme for sure.

i would build with record 80 anniversary and bora 35 or hyperons. nicer than a c59 i think, matching fork would be nice but not bad at all with black star fork, some of them came like that. same with geo paint scheme, some had the matching fork, some did not. congrats, great find

I know this will sound silly to most of you, but after all those long years of buying, building, unbuilding, selling frames, parts, wheels and bikes...

this is the first time I feel a bit uncomfortable with violating this frame's virginity.

it is actually pure NOS, a pair of wheels, nor a seatpost, no headset etc has never been fit to her.

even the derailer thread paint protector is still there, unbroken paint over it. :)

I will have a hard time even trying to insert a seatpost into place :P

Don't sweat it, built it and ride the hell out of it. This is what this frame was designed for.

Like @LionelB said... Get over it! Build it. Ride it. It can be cleaned when it gets dirty. It will get scratched. Maybe a chainsuck or two. If it doesn't get ridden, you don't deserve it. :beerchug:

My only problem now is to decide which crank to use

Problem is, I only have on that same year of Record 11, a compact 50/34 on my size 172.5 and a standard 53/39 but it is 170, both new in box.

I have already tried the compact 50/34 and didn't liked it, sure makes climbing easier, but I prefer the 53/39 overall.

I do have another SuperRecord 11 on 50/34 and stronglight rings a 52 and 38/36

I setup my C50 on the SR11 with 52/36 and will try it these day while I wait for the remaining parts, to decide if I want to use it like that on the C40.

Best would be to find someone who has a same year NIB 53/39 172.5 and wants to trade it for my 170 but that is really improbable.

If you like 53/39, I think you can be very happy with a 52/36. Especially depending what sort of cassette you run with it. I would just do that if you don't have an easy trade with someone.

Just use the 170....it is only 2.5mm, "Hucken The Fard Up!"

I actually switched from 172.5 to 170 and preferred it as I felt I could maintain a higher cadence.

The only thing is, probably it would be better to keep them NIB to sell them and then buy a NIB 172.5 otherwise only setting it up they loose market value, silly thing I know, but there you go.

I'm sure the 170 could be good enough, but as all my other bikes have 172.5 I prefer to keep them identical, yes I have OCD at that point :P

I think the black fork looks better than the matching one! Adding Hyperons to the mix would be killer.
Long live the horizontal top tube, standard crankset, and Italian threaded bottom bracket.

I tried the C50 on a 52/36 using a Compact SR11 I had, Stronglight rings and KCNC bolts.

It's not that bad, you keep more or less the same high end, and the climbing gets just a a tad easier.

I have ordered Specialites TA Nerius rings for the Record crank and will set it up with them.

here a Pic of the C50 on the 52/36 at the Hirzel Top, the highest point reachable by road in my Canton

The parts I was expecting arrived today.

The build is almost finished..... I have yet to decide if I go with white bar tape and hoods or Mapei correct blue bar tape and hoods

What do you say ?
