Cannondale Flash 7,6 kilos
Moderators: MrCurrieinahurry, maxim809, Moderator Team
I have been working on my Flash for a while to get it down in weight. It is currently on 7,6 kilos and I am still looking for options to reduce weight. As the bike is used for regular XC training and XC racing, I have compromised on a few parts (seen from a WW perspective) as the lightest parts did not seem race-worthy to me in a few categories (this is of course a personal judgement only). The parts ended up being pedals (I like the XTR far more than Eggbeater) as well as tyres and tubes.
The current build list is as follows:
Cannondale Flash 26"
Cranks and BB: Hollowgram SL
Chainrings: XX
Pedals: XTR
Chain: SRAM
Cassette: SRAM XX
Rear Mech: XX w. Ti bolts
Front Mech: XX w. Ti bolts
Shifters: XX w. Ti bolts and BK carbon clamps with Smolke carbon bolts
Brakes: Magura MT8 w. Kettle carbon rotors and black Ti bolts
Handle bar: MCFK carbon
Steertube: MCFK carbon
Stem: AX Lightness 70mm w. Ti bolts
Grips: Extralite foam
Fork: Lefty DLR SL
Wheels: Enve clincher carbon w. Project 321
Seat post clamp: MCFK carbon w. ti bolt
Seat post: MCFK carbon w. Ti bolts
Seat: Tune Speedneedle
QR: Tune Ti.
Tyres: Rocket Ron
Tubes: Michelin Latex
In general, I have tried to change most of the bolts to black Titanium bolts and a few Smolke carbon bolts for low stress areas.
Any advise on further weight reduction will be much appreciated.
Thanks for the look.

Nice, how much does the Flash frame weigh?
Nice bike! Seems both reliable, stiff and light! If you want to get it lighter you can:
Is it possible to find titanium spindle for the XTR? Would save a bit
Change chainrings to Tune or B.O.R. The spider on XX is so large anyway so stiffness is less of a problem than on say a XTR or hollowgram standard spider. Saves around 60 gms
Change pulleys to Roth Sheks. Saves around 10 grams

change hubs to Extralite -260g
lighter saddle mcfk for example -20g
titanium spindles to pedals -40g
bb axle from experimental prototype -50g
leonardi spider rings -42g
SI SL2 crank arms -38g
i link mini cables -20g
remove paint -120g
about 590 grams lost

Thank you for input.
I think I like the CK/I9/P321 engagement type too much to change to Extralite even though I reckon that I could save some significant weight in that area. I am not sure of the engagement type and reliability of Extralite. Any input?
Lighter seat is a valid point - I will look into that.
Ti spindles for XTR would be great. I am not sure if a new version of those is out, because the last version on the market had a tendency of breaking.
EP is a brand i find unreliable, so will pass on the spindle unless I can find an alternative company making them.
Leonardi spider rings is a great suggestion - I will look into those. SI SL2 - I will have a look. For the i link cables I hear mixed feedback. Are they reliable?
I think I will keep the paint - do not have the abilities neither an appropriate location to go into paint removal.
For the Kettle rotors, I have to say I am still in the testing period. Not yet sure if they are going to deliver when the pads have broken in.

Take a Delrin Spacer instead the orginal MCFK carbon one. Then change the front MT8 to the good old Marta SL IS 160mm, and you`ll loose weight and 2ti scews and the ugly adapter
