Stock ‘low mod’ 105, stripped and built back with UDi2. Other features:
- Wheels Farsports Feder with D230 hubs
- cranks SISL2 with 4iiii power meter
- Bars Roval Rapide (AKA Aerofly III)
- CCCache mount for Kalloy Uno
- 11/32 XG1190 to help me up the steep bits!
- 31mm enve tubeless tyres
All in, 6.837kg.
The Roval bars are significantly more expensive than the Aerofly they replace; only consolation 209g (42cm) and come with the cable transition bits.
Think it might:
- swap the 31mm for 29mm tyres,
- put on lighter pedals
- change to 28,cassette
- Hylix seatpost (on order)
- 50/34 spidering (when they come back in stock)
Suspect that will get me to about 6.7 - happy with that!

Beautiful, clean and well balanaced. You certainly know your bikes.
Beancounter, I am interested to hear the difference between your 2 cockpits. Moreover, your thoughts on the 'Fasterway' integrated handlebar? It's stiffness, comfort and ergonomics now that you have the Roval and Uno stem to compare it to. Would you buy them again? What didn't you like about the bar?
Oh - and you must put the 2 bikes together for some photos and some bike porn

Can I see more photos of the bars, specifically the cable management under the stem. I am thinking about these for my Supersix build!Beancouter wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 11:36 pm

If I’m honest I haven’t ridden it much yet, although I did have the Aerofly II on my Roubaix and I really liked them. I find them comfortable on the hoods, and they also encourage me to ride on the tops, which I rarely do on other barsGary71 wrote:Beautiful, clean and well balanaced. You certainly know your bikes.

In contrast the faster way bars are stiff! They look fabulous on the bike, are really light (less than 300g from memory) but definitely not so comfortable.
The bonus of the Roval bars was that they came in at 209g in a 42cm. I think however the massive increase in price from the previous version is a bit cheeky, although they do now supply the cable transition parts in the box.

I was going to set up a separate thread on the bars as there isn’t much info available. I bought 2 sets so will put some pics of them out of the box and on the bike.vneilv wrote:Can I see more photos of the bars, specifically the cable management under the stem. They’re working really well on the front, but I took them off The rear.dpries wrote:Great build! Reading through I noticed you went with bowden tube for the housing on the rim bike. How's that hold up long term?
My plan was to run the rear cable through the frame fully internally via the headset spacer for the disc brake hoses. They worked okay but didn’t bite particularly well - It was more than likely a combination of cable routing at the front, as well as the cable angle at the back running into the EEs. I therefore took them off and put normal cabling back on.
At some point, now I have more headset spaces that I can mess around with, I will have another go using the Bowden cables.

Just one question: how did you route rear cable (and its housing) internally ? Is-it possible to route cable housing inside the frame ? No cable housing stops at frame entry ? So "no stop housing" from break lever to brake caliper ?
Thanks for your help !

I used the front cable stop but from inside The frame and then back to the rear cable stop as normal.
That bit worked ok, the main friction point was getting the cable down past the stem and into the top tube.
The brake engaged ok, a bit soft, but the release lacked snap. Had I not given up , I suspect i could have continued to improve it but gave up and got on with other projects.

Hi Beancouter,Beancouter wrote: ↑Fri Aug 27, 2021 12:43 pmLike my rim brake so much, thought I would get a disc version for the grubby UK weather.
I'm thinking of picking up a SSE Gen 3 in rim brake and upgrading it in a similiar way you did your build. I had a question about your experience between the rim brake and disc brake versions of the Supersix Evo Gen 3. Unfortunately, I won't be able to test ride the rim brake SSE before buying it since it's quite far from me. Instead, I've done a test ride of a friend's SSE Gen 3 disc to get an idea of this bike/frame. As you have experience with both a rim brake and disc brake SSE, how did the two bikes compare? I'm specifically wondering if the rim brake would be comfortable than the disc in terms of road buzz.
FWIW, I did the my test ride of the SSE Gen 3 back to back with my Aethos. The SSE felt faster on the flats, but the comfort was not at the same 'magic carpet' ride of the Aethos.

If I am honest, I can’t really remember. I cant imagine there was much difference in the ride quality from the frame, but they would have been running different wheels/tyres so not sure I could give a fair comparison (even if I could recall!) - sorryiamraymond wrote:Hi Beancouter,Beancouter wrote: ↑Fri Aug 27, 2021 12:43 pmLike my rim brake so much, thought I would get a disc version for the grubby UK weather.
