Good choice. I use the same grips, but in the lock-on variety. The padding on 'em is pretty good, and I was using 'em on my rigid 29er for a while.
I was using the non-lock-on, but had one come loose and so I switched. The lock-ons are far firmer than the originals

I love ESI Chunky grips. But I've also had good luck with the Ergon GS1. I'd like to give the new GA1 Evo grip a try as well.
