XTR 970 cranks with 2x9 set up! PICS
Moderator: Moderator Team
I have just changed the original XTR chainrings to TA specialites, 42t and 30t. I also changed the chainringbolts for the outher chainring to narrow ones and added M8 spacers that are 2mm thick for the grannyring. Sadly its winter here so it want be a test run for long.

so , did you change position of 42 and 30 for chainline ?
because , you can mount it in the correct position outer and middle
instead of middle and inner ...
strange !
i will choose a 27 T instead 30 T
only with a THM Clavicula you MUST mount only a 30T as little ring ...
with XTR 2007 you can use 28, 27 , 26 T ...
30 ... steel legs you have

The Q-factor is no problem for me, dosent feel like I would want a shorter axel if there was one either. I did this mostly for the chainline and to save some weight.
When I had the original set up I never used the granny ring and then the middle ring was 32t so now I thought that a 30t grannyring would work nice for me, if not I will change it for a 28t in the feature.

nice simple setup. where did you get narrower chain ring bolts from? and why the spacers on the granny ring?

From chainreaction, they are Middleburn narrow ones. The stock ones are to wide to hold a single chainring. The spacers on the grannyring is a must have or the chain want fit on the chainring, it came way to close to the middlering.
it make sense.
i never use the granny ring so it removed it.
the 32 is much not big enough so it is grown to a 36.
and the outer ring is still 44 bud i use it only when i race, (retard level races)
and use a 7700 cassette 12-27, if 36-27 when 36x27 is to havy i run faster
my residence is where are no mountains.
maybe the xtr was a stupid choise for me to buy , i better bought a stc 110 road crank.

if you dont mind me askin: how much would that cost?
So 2mm M8 spacers make it possible to use classic LX/XT/TA granny on xtr crank? No shifting problems?
Did you drill mini holes in those spacers or is that just the pic?
Anyone tried 26 or 27 with 42? Is this comfortable to shift +15T or is the difference too big?
Well done!

I think he's using 2mm spacers because Shimano, in there wisdom made the XTR cranks BCD Standard as people wanted - but they still made it that Only XTR rings work on XTR cranks. The granny ring has a 2mm offset - so if you want to use anything other than XTR you need to use spacers to make it work.
What a company

eliflap, could you please explain me why I "MUST mount only a 30T as little ring" on THM Clavicula? I am currently using 38/26T rings while 38T is in middle and 26T in granny position.
If you have a normal Clavicula you can use smaller than 30t granny. It's only the DP version that have 30t minimum.
hm... trying to catch it any pic? if 28-42 won't work on Clav'as, then i should likely get anyther crank
weight concerned = good, weight obsessed = bad!
