I run a pc89r hollowpin chain on a 9 speed cassette, with 8 speed chainrings and haven't had a single problem

And i've been running a sachs 9speed chain on an 8 speed cassette on another bike, again with no probs whatsoever

Add the two together and i *doubt* any problems would appear...

Do a search.

There already were lots of discussions about which gear-combinations to drive, and which not.

If you accidently had to, could your bike take a smaller downhill ?
