Hello team.
I have the 2021 epic expert, tuned. The black model which is normally sold with tanwall tires and that looks amazing. But I purchased the bike without wheelset and crankset from a friend. So I installed my wheels, with black cross kings and it doesn't look that good.
Now I am searching for best possible tires.
- 29x2.2 - 29x2.35
- Xc
- Tubeless
- At least front should have acceptable grip
- Acceptable puncture protection
- I am using tubolight inserts
- good rolling resistance, here the race kings are the best but they don't have any grip
Considering
- older sworks fast trak and renegade
- newer fast trak
- ikon
- racing Ralph / ray
- some vittoria maybe?
Tanwall mtb tires with all best parameters

Vittoria Mezcal is a good choice. Light rolling resistance (I don't have the impression they roll slower than i.e. Aspens). As a rear tire, I never head grip issues in any circumstances. In wet conditions, Vittoria Barzo may be a better front tire option, but for dry loose rocky conditions the Mezcal is perfect as well. You have them in 2.25 and 2.35 tanwall options and after half year of (ab)use I'm satisfied with the durability as well.

Around the 700gr mark for each tire, so yes there are lighter options fur sure. Similar in the weight range of Maxxis Rekon race or Ikon which in my opinion are good tires as well.
Personally I keep away from the light mtb tires since I don't like pumping tires during a race or in the middle of nowhere.
Conti "Bernstein" (Amber) Race Kings. VERY fast, but will take a few days to fully seal. I run these in 650x2.2 on my gravel bike.
