Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know of a hardtail mtb frame than can accept a 40t chainring? My goal is to build up a "frankenbike" that can double as both a hardtail mtb and on the occasion be used for chunky gravel races as a drop bar hardtail using the new Surly Corner Bar to make the switch.

The frame doesn't have to officially accept a 40t, I'd just want to make sure it would clear the chainstay.

Thanks in advance!

Garbaruk has size based offset, this way it will fit on a lot more frames.

Dangerholm for instance used it on a scott spark

Roger that and thanks for the input. I'm assuming I'd want a 0mm or 3mm offset (at most) for the chainring, no? This way the chainring would be farther from the chainstay.

In The Netherlands, we convert MTB's for riding on the beach. I'm currently using a Cube Reaction frame, and will fit a 44t chainring. What i've seen is that if u use an alloy frame you have more clearance (less offset) than carbon frames, due to bigger chainstays. Other people use Specialized Chisel, Giant XTC. Hope this helps.

Or go for a 9t cassette, gives you 20% smaller ring compated to 11t and 10% smaller to 10t

BMC twostroke (carbon).
I run a 40t ring without the need of any offset with a race face next sl crank (with 104 bcd spider).

I’ve Specialized Stumpjumper hardtail 2015 with 39 chainring. 40 and probably even 42 will fit too.
