looks like someone is rubbing his shoes a lot! Anyway, apart from aestheticaly scuffs, it looks that it is only the protective film and maybe some varnish. I would sand it down, clear coat it and ride it.
Really??? are you serious????

Your explanation fails to address the line going across the DS crank that is clearly more than just varnish.

You explanation that part of it worries you also does not mesh with your statement that it's only film and varnish. If part of the crankarm is worryingly damaged it doesn't matter if part of it isn't, the crank arm is still worryingly damaged.

I would not pay anything for cranks in that condition. It's more than just the protective film that's worn away. They might not break but even so, they are worn where they shouldn't be.

Looks like a great crankset for a lab rat to do some tests on it, during which it will fail.

It's not a given that the crank will fail but the damage has to increase the chance of failure.

By how much, who can say.

All I know from personal experience is that there is risk of injury when a crank or in my case chainset fails, and for that reason keep away.

Now that crank is very Shimano Hollowtech in terms of failure uncertainty Image

A bit of sand, water and a large shoe/booty (or just a loose flap) makes that happen quicker than you'd imagine - a bike with too tight of a tire clearance on a really dirty day can eat through a chain-/seatstay in no time.

With that said, I'd pay nothing for those and use them as much.
