Hey intersting feedback you give in this thread.
Was looking for an epic but it's sold out for now. Supercaliber was in the list so I might move to it.
I'm not fully aware of the new geo trend in mtb, would you give a you height and frame size you choose?

There is a size guide on the Trek site. I am 177 cm and chose a medium mostly because while I could technically ride a medium large I looked at the geometry chart and realized the medium matched almost exactly to the geo of my trail bike which fits me perfectly (SC 5010 first version). So when I switch bikes my positioning is nearly identical.

Allright, the guide tell me to take a ml frame, but as you do I compare it with my actual bike and the m size is closer.
As I'm 170cm with ~71cm saddle height and you are 177 riding a M I think I should go With a M.
There is some good value offer on second hand frame.
Thx

got a large frameset to build up. there's definitely some trick stuff about the frame, and its SUPER beefy, but i'm a little bit dissappointed in the carbon innards. turns out it's also a Giant bike. i've been more impressed by specialized and maybe even ibis frames to be honest.

the crispness on Scott BB shells (new Addict RC) makes this look like an open mold chinese bike. the edges are all jagged and gross. the bearing shelf is not perfectly uniform.

this thing is a bit pricey at $3700 and a bit heavy at ~2100g. should make for a solid race bike, but yeah...

What do you mean it’s a Giant bike...made in same factory?

yeah. i'm sure it's already known or at least speculated, just sorta meh...i hate paying a surcharge for a Giant bike. not that they're bad bikes, but most run-of-the-mill carbon mtb frames are around the $3k mark. but i guess it's the R&D and low-production-volume proprietary shock, etc.

thread coming next week, waiting on last shipment of parts.

so far, tinkering with the frame i'm a little disappointed in some things. one of the Fox slider bushings is REALLY tight and slightly misaligned. tons and tons and tons of stiction. all the kashima in the world won't help you if your #%$# tolerances suck.

also, the BB shell is WAYY undersized. 40.8mm when spec is 40.95. I could barely get the bottom bracket in and probably won't be able to get it out. I should have honed the shell, but against my better judgement skipped that step.

Trek support is really good though. it's nice being able to speak to a tech on the phone. they were kind enough to send me the parts guide.

What's up with the sloppiness on the paintjob? Is it that bad elsewhere on the frame?

Yeh the overspray on the cage bolt hole is bad.

That's a bit of a weird fit ^

Aesthetics don't matter of course but I'd worry about the amount of exposed steerer and the fork warranty
