Pillar 1423 spokes are the same weight of CX-ray but 60 cents each. If you want to go with steel spokes.

Or you can save yourself the hassle of selling those wheels by taking the spokes and rim off and re-lacing the hubs.

For my light set of xc wheels I ended up with Carbonfan t800 rims, i23/i30, 300g/360g. This combo with the narrower in the rear works nicely, saves a bit of weight.
Where are you finding 1423s for less than a dollar each?

These are pretty lightweight.

22mm inner and 27mm outer diameter. Bought last summer from Ciervo on Aliexpress, Extralite Hyperlefty in the front 79g hub and DT Swiss 240S in the rear, both 28h.

CX ray spokes.

Could save about 40g with a lighter rear hub, but didn't consider worth it

Of course running them with Barberie 29" Small puncture protection, feels like a bulldozer and can handle everything. Never scared of hitting bumps or curbs :D :beerchug:

What is the cross section/width of the small Barbieri insert? 40mm? I have the Medium and it is 50mm. Trying to figure out if the Small is what I want for a wheelset I'm building up.

I have no idea. I use Schwalbe racing ray/ralph 2.25" on these rims and it took 4 hands to get it on, the Barbieri really fills the entire space between rim and tire. Could never get any larger insert to fit.

Sometimes the air pressure drops to 1 bar and I barely notice until white sealant is allover the wheel   :P

I've built a set of XC(M) wheels. I went with the Carbonal MX932 XC. They weigh 330 grams +- 15gr as stated by them (laced lots of wheels with Carbonal and are usually bang on their claimed weights, in my experience). I did a 32 hole build, laced with (my standard go-to) DT350 hubs. I wanted 32 holes as the marathons I am competing in (I know good memories from the past right now ) are quite harsh for the bike. Anyway I still managed to keep the wheelset's weight at a 1461 grams. I used some 1.6mm butted spokes to help keeping the weight down (isn't really recommended for MTB, but I am also relatively low weight). So I recon that with some nicer hubs and a 28 spoke build you can easily get in the 1300's with it. I already did some challenging and tricky trails with them and they hold up pretty solid!

This one look pretty nice! ;)

I'm just searching for a new wheelset, don't know would be better to wait until new DT 240S hubs appear on the market on should I go for Extralite hubs. Anyway, my current set is 15x100mm + 142x12mm Acros 29 XC carbon wheelset, ~1295 grams (Duke carbon rims).
But both of my MTBs have boost forks now with 'normal' 142x12mm at rear which makes things a bit more difficult.
This one would be quite nice I guess, with Duke SLS2 carbon rims, ~1100 grams :) https://r2-bike.com/Wheelset-29-XC-Extr ... arbon-Rims

I have a friend with Duke rims and Carbon Ti hubs. They sound incredible and have the exact same weight as DT Swiss 180 EXP. But his rims are on the heavy side, about 350g per rim I believe, total weight around 1300 or 1350g.

His rims look way nicer thought with 3K matte finish.

Hubs, anything is possible, and if you want to buy from R2 they can put together a custom kit for you with whatever you want :)

I think R2 also has the new DT 240 EXP hubs? https://r2-bike.com/navi.php?qs=240+exp&search=

1295g is pretty light though... just 120 gram heavier than mine. If you want to go closer to the 1000g then look at the Pi-rope sets offered by R2, if you have the cash :) If you want to come below my 1175 you need a lighter hub than 240S in the rear, you probably won't find lighter rims than 290-300g off the shelf, I know a few Chinese manufacturers that could custom-make a pair around 270g each (same as I have but I think mine measure 285 or 300g).

Here is something just for fun haha my new gravel wheelset measuring 24mm OD and 19.6mm ID ~250g rims.
The new DT Swiss 180 EXP hubs + Sapim CX Ray + Pillar turquoise nipples.
With Berd Spokes these would be about 900g, and with the lightest Extralite hubs somewhere around 850 maybe? But then the durability is heavily sacrificed and Berd spokes would add another 8-900 USD to the cost.

If you don't mind the unfashionably traditional 22" internal width, the wheels I'm running are the Newmen Advanced SL X.22 wheels. 1225g. And now that there are newer versions of the wheels with wider rim widths, the 22" versions are on fire sale from a number of online sites such as this one:

http://www.bestbikeoutlet.com/product/n ... -wheelset/

Have it on my 2018 Trek Top Fuel 9.8SL and love how light they are. Completely changed the feel of my bike.

Bro, that website looks shady AF! :noidea:
This cannot be true, half the price of what it cost to order from Bike24 or R2 bike...

I really wish Newmen would answer emails. They are losing my business by not responding to my inquiries.

How do people like Duke rims?

Never seen them in the US. Their Crazy Jack rim set (30mm front/27mm rear) almost looks too good to be true. 407 and 418 for the front and rear, respectively.

I like the Newmen wheelset, a friend of mine has a set, really solid and light stuff.
To me, the limitation is the 12x142mm at the rear, both my MTBs have 12x142. While all superlight wheelsets are BOOST only (with 12x148mm at rear) including PI-Rope, and some of the lighest hubs don't offer 12x142mm anymore (e.g. DT180 is 12x148mm only).
So, my MY2017 Acros XC Carbon 29 wheelset also equipped with Duke Lucky Jack rims, with the old ones. These are extremely durable, survived ~15 long-distance races and 10.000+ kms. That's why I'm thinking in Duke rims again (or in the new Newmen carbon rims - oldschool inner width is not an issue to me;)).
So maybe Extralite hubs (15x110 BOOST at front + 12x142mm normal at rear) would be a good choice. Duke Lucky Jack Ultra SLS2 rims (not the 6TERS version), where rims are 275 grams (see here: https://r2-bike.com/DUKE-Rim-29-Lucky-J ... less-ready ), CX Ray spokes the weight should be somewhere around 1100 grams: https://r2-bike.com/Wheelset-29-XC-Extr ... arbon-Rims
My forks are BOOST already, 15x110mm. For the rear, Extralite with 12x142 will be still future-proof, because it has an adapter kit to 12x148 BOOST (however, it costs a fortune), if someday I would replace both my hardtail and fully frames: https://r2-bike.com/Extralite-Umruestki ... lspanner_3

I think I'm gonna wait until R2-Bike will come up with their new DT240EXP builds, 240 EXP hub will be offered in 142x12mm. Hopefully that'll cost ~200-300 EUR less for ~80-100 grams more - ehh, I have to go back to my good old keto diet again. :D
