Light XC Wheelsets

To be perfectly honest, the idea of 275g mountain bike rims frightens me. At any width, really.
I do a lot of riding in relatively rocky areas, well away from cell phone service, at elevations above 3,000m. Breaking a rim and getting stranded is not an option for me. I'm not super aggressive, but I also like going fast. I just don't see a 275g rim surviving under me, even at only 65kg, during a stage race like the Breck Epic or Moab Rocks.

What be your choice of hubs and rims using 27-30mm wide, and hubs with decent sized bearings?
Had similar feelings, took me a while to convince myself these rims should survive the abuse. (Should I choose the Lucky Jack SLS2 6ters maybe? 330g+307g )LeDuke wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 8:37 pmTo be perfectly honest, the idea of 275g mountain bike rims frightens me. At any width, really.

According to the manufaturer, should be OK until 90 kg + XC-trail usage (SLS2 6ters: 110 kg). http://www.duke-racingwheels.com/duke-l ... a/?lang=en
I'm 72-75 kg, depending on the phase in a season. 75 kg in winter (3-4 months of Gym with heavy weight exercises and less endurance rides put some weight to my body ), 72-73 in summer time.

I have seen the posts of dream bikes in Milano italy, he makes amazing light rims and are extremely tough on the other hand. I remember a movie of them hitting it with a hammer ! No damage at all!

Considering getting Farsports XC 30/25 ultralight wheelset on DT Swiss 180 EXP. Come in at crazy 1180 grams with CX Ray Spokes. My concern is with MTB, I am debating spending more money to get a no questions asked with crash replacement. You can get a Enve XC wheelset on sale for not much more, and they carry a lifetime warranty, but are 200-300grams heavier. 2 Cracked rims, and it's almost even.
Thoughts on how these China quality branded XC wheels hold up rim wise? I've own 2 sets of farsports road disc, and they've been flawless, but road isn't mtb.

I'm too lazy to lookup the price of the farsports wheelset but the middle ground is a pair of Roval Control SLs. 2 year warranty. Middle of weight difference. I like mine if that matters....
If you aren't set on farsports, LB offers warranties on their higher end rims 5 years or lifetime. But at that point you will probably be close to the ENVEs or Rovals in price.

I'm getting a set of XC MTB wheels for gravel use. Light Bicycle XC725 650B flyweight both F/R, 24x24 CX-Ray, and DT Swiss 240 EXP. It should come in at around 1,120g. I weigh 58kg. and super easy on wheels. Life is too short to not have some fun.

Keep in mind that DT Swiss 180's are centerlock only, so the weight you save on the wheelset will be gained at the rotors.Considering getting Farsports XC 30/25 ultralight wheelset on DT Swiss 180 EXP.

I’d go with We Are One over ENVE.Indyx wrote:Digging this up.

Same warranty, cheaper, lighter. Rims are 450 USD. My Revive model rims are 343g and 342g, respectively, with a 25mm internal width. And the best quality I’ve ever seen by a good stretch.
You could build up a set of Revive + Berd + 180s for less than ENVE, by a good bit, and have a lighter wheelset. I’ve owned both, and WAO makes a better product.
