I'm doing a new trail bike build, trying to go for a decently burly build but light where i can get away with it. Been looking at these two brakes the most. I want to try something other than shimano or sram, Ive had both, my XT's were ok not great, i like my guides but i want something lighter and havent heard great things about the level's.
The weight if the R1R's is awesome, I've heard a lot of great review's and a lot of poor reviews, seems like bleeding and rubbing are the biggest issues, not sure if they've been resolved in recent years? The MT8 SL's seem great too, but havent heard as much feedback on them, its mostly feedback from the older MT8's which seems similar to the R1R's pretty mixed.
From what i've read It seems like power should be fine, i'll probably go with 180/160 for rotors. This might see a little bit of bike park use so more power/ lack of fading IS a plus, but 90% of my riding it wont be an issue.
thoughts?
MT8 SL vs R1 Racing brakes vs?

Add Trickstuff Piccola to that list, but I never used it. My R1r has been fine and the bleed with nothing special, but I can't compare it to other high end MTB brakes. The levers do rattle, though.

Looked at those too, they'd be my first choice if i could afford it, but theyre pretty far out of my price range.
Anyone know if the R1R's have gone through a revision lately? The weight seems to be a bit more on what im guessing is the newest version https://r2-bike.com/FORMULA-Disc-Brake- ... lished-SET 195 grams a piece vs 165 for older ones.
Strangely the MT8's are listed as being pretty significantly heavier https://r2-bike.com/MAGURA-MT8-SL-Disc-Brake-Set-2019 thats 225 a piece. thats only 5 grams ligher than the trail set that has a 4 piston caliper?
