I'd like to replace the battery on this SRM and I'm fairly confident on the battery replacement and soldering but I can't figure out how to get into the spider! There is no obvious join and if I remove the large SRM circular sticker I'm left looking at a layer of sealing tape. Can anyone help please?

Checkout 'How to change a wireless SRM crank battery'.
To answer your question, remove the chainrings, then look at the chainring mounting tabs and you will see a micro small indention (there is one on the lower right tab in image below) on one or two of the tabs where you can use a small tool/lever to pry up on the torque ring cover. Take note that there is an o-ring behind that cover that must be properly re-installed or the torque ring cover will not seat correctly during reassembly.

Thanks for the reply ms6073. In my photos can you tell me where this indentation is? I'd read that link but my spider does not look like the ones in the photos and I can't see how to access the internals, hence my question.

As has already been mentioned by others, I am also unable to see any of the images in your original post.

While I can see the inner seem next to the spindle lock ring, I am not able to discern the outer seem nor any leverage points. Interesting to note a Shimano logo'd crank arm but an FSA lock ring. This might be one of those times when sending it to an SRM service center may be a better otption as they will replace the batteries as well as update the firmware.
