I'm not seeing a good range in these that don't flex (can't afford the newest ones). Bar the lefty that I can't run, what are a decent choice? Seems like the Fox 34 as an example is terribly flexy!

I'm on a 29er with a 100x15 axle.

If the Fox 34 is “terribly flexy” for you, at <120mm, you need to lose a lot of weight.

That’s a VERY stiff fork for a 100mm
application. Much stiffer than a 32 or 32 SC. Or any other XC fork, really.

Fox 32 isn't actually massively flexy for an XC fork.

Unless you are using it on or for something completely unsuitable.

I'm confused. I'm 170-175lbs and ride hard. The 32sc on my XC bike is acceptably stiff for the use, much stiffer than any other XC fork I've used. The 34 150mm on my trail bike is acceptably stiff in that application and would be very stiff feeling when lowered and paired with XC wheels and frame. If that's not stiff enough for you both the 36 and Pike can be set to 100mm (this application is used by dirtjumpers) and will be rock solid. Used Pikes are a dime a dozen. However, they weight 4.3lbs and will make your wheels and frame feel flexy.

I have the fox 34 step cast. I don't notice any flex. It is plush though.

That video says the 32sc is flexier than the RS1 which goes against my experience, every review I've read, and every other riders' opinion that I've heard.

Remember that you only need your fork to be stiff enough to keep up with the rest of your bike. Running a steep head angle and XC race tires? You probably won't be cornering hard enough to flex the fork. The 34sc was made for "trail" or more capable XC bikes that have the geometry, tires, and wheel stiffness to ride harder and require a stiffer fork (and more travel).

When building my current XC bike I was deciding between these two categories:
Spark 120 w/34sc 120, wide rims, 2.3" tires, 6" dropper
Spark RC w/32sc, 23mm rims, 2.2 tires, 5" dropper
I went for the latter and am happy with the choice. It's at least 2lbs lighter and gives me an edge in XC races while being fun and capable enough to enjoy riding.
