Operating from 11 regional distribution sites from around the country, Cast Products Corp., based in Elkhart, Ind., has positioned itself as one of the leading national distributors of construction products and components for the manufactured housing and recreational vehicle industries. Founded in 1956, the well-known supplier extended its base of operations through a series of acquisitions and recently formed a new holding company, DEHCO, in anticipation of additional purchases:

Indeed, the firm's history is marked by a number of acquisitions:

In 1987 Cast purchased Colorimetric Division, located in Mishawaka, Ind. Colorimetric manufactures adhesives and sealants. In 1996 the company built a new corporate headquarters which includes a new 90,000-sq. ft. warehouse. That same year, Cast Products purchased Southern Supply Co. located in Georgia and Southern Graphics located in Alabama. In 1998 the distribution company opened a warehouse in California and in 1999 purchased Southern Supply of Florida and Tri-State Distribution in Goshen, Ind.

According to Will Shroyer, chief administration officer, the company experienced a 45% growth from 1996 to 1999. "Because I handle the financial side of the business, I want us to grow profitably," he explained.

With the addition of Tri-Star Distribution, Wayne E. Kaylor has assumed the dual role of president for both companies. "Our plan is for continued growth through new purchases and research and development," said Kaylor, adding that Cast Products sells to the top 20 MH and RV manufacturers in the United States.

"Combined with Tri-Star, we are now set up to handle the distribution of all the products from our key regional distribution sites throughout the country," said Kaylor.

Cast Products' catalogue includes over 5,000 items for the RV side of its business, and Kaylor cites Brunner LP tanks, faucets, sinks and adhesives as their top-selling RV products. The company uses its fleet of 15 trucks to ship products from its distribution centers.

CEO of the privately owned company and grandson of the founder, James T. Schwartz expressed the same vision for the future. "Our goal is to continue to grow the company and expand even further our national presence," said Schwartz.
