I decided to build a 29er, looking for an open mold frame, with 148mm rear hub Boost size. So far, the only frame I have found is the Hong-Fu FM-199-B-SL

It's supposed to be from 2017, so quite new. Any experience with this frame or build photos or any alternative suggestion? Thanks in advance!!

Correct!! I updated the text; FM-199-B-SL

This one is supposed to be about 1050g in size 17", about 585€+customs shipped to EU... Not bad, I´m between this one and the Canyon Exceed SL full bike.

I was a bit disappointed with the 71deg HTA of the FM199-B. The workswell seemed nicer IMO.

Do you have the geometry chart for the workswell?

The Canyon Exceed SL still has the 142 rear spacing. They offer it with a Boost fork but haven't revised the frame to 148 yet. It's too bad because I would have bought one if it had 148 spacing in the rear. 142 is a dying standard and 148 will have more wheel/hub options going forward.

same here, why buy non boost in a new bike, right? makes no sense. Companies are changing standards all the time... not gonna buy any outdated standard, makes no sense, so less points for canyon, unless they make a decent sale in september... hehe

The workswell geometry chart is on the link you provided.

Personally I have been hunting for an open mold boost HT so I could share wheels with my fs boost bike without forking out for a brand name. I probably wouldn't bother with boost if I didn't have that requirement. Unless I was looking for tyre clearance.

Thanks!! I´m intrigued by the workswell, pity can't get any real photo of the frame. the hongfu can be ordered for 600€ shipped and custom duties included, for a weight of about 1050g for a size M. The wrokswell is supposed to be about 950g for the same size, no price or source to get one found yet. Any help appreciated.

Weight of the hong fu, raw, no paint, no dropouts:

Got a photo of the new hong-fu FM-289. A bit ugly to me, looks like the same ugly shape boxy of BMC frames.

Updates from Workswell, out of the oven the first roast. Raw finish (not painted yet), I think it's a size M:

And then, there is this other new open mold chinese frame in the market, already for sale at aliexpress:

This one takes 3.0 rear tire, chainstays are 440mm instead of 430, and I notice the rear brake it's flat mount like a road frame... there are adaptors for post mount 140mm or 160mm, I assume this flat mount is for 140mm, but I´m not 100% sure of that...

I prefer the workswell, but this one it's already available and I assume the workswell will be a tiny bit more expensive.

I was thingking of buying a canyon or a santacruz, but I hate to pay so much more for just a chinese made hardtail...

If it's a 142 hard tail you can just pull the dropouts apart and slide a 148 wheel in there. You'll need a longer axle though.
