XC tyres

Best xc tyres. Light weight, grippy, puncture resistant and good rolling resistance?

Currently running Recon Race 2.4 F and Aspen 2.4 R.

Any substitutes?

Hard to have it all, it's always a compromise. For the winter I'm running Wicked Will (super ground) 2.4 front and Barzo (xc trail) 2.35 rear. They roll quite well and are not heavy considering the grip they provide. Wicked will is around 850g, barzo 750g.

For the summer I'm planning to run new Mezcal xc race 2.4 front and rear. New peyote from the same line tested very well https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.co ... te-xc-race

I've heard good things about the 2.4 Pirelli XC RC Prowall. I've heard some like it better than the Rekon Race and Aspen because it corners better (bigger side knobs) and weighs a few grams less.

If you haven't already seen it, the guys at Flow Mountain Bike did a recent comparison of a number of XC tires.

Their local trails are quite rocky, so durability may be ranked a bit higher in their balance of attributes versus your needs, but it was worth the read.

I appreciate that they seem to do a lot of comparison articles of class-leading kit - rather than just catalogue regurgitations, which don't really help anyone.

Specialized S-Works Fast Track and Renegade are super light at under 600g for 2.35"
I've read lots of mixed reviews of them though, some love them, some don't. Rolling resistance doesn't get as high marks as some others, but I'm a bit leary of BRR these days, especially with how to judge MTB tires. They are manufactured by Vittoria IIRC. I've always been really impressed with tires (Road and MTB) I've bought from Specialized, they are pretty affordable for a 'top shelf' tire, super comfortable, grippy.

Strange that Continental doesn't offer Race Kings in 2.4.

They’ve had a prototype 2.4 RK on the World Cup circuit for a couple years now.

They’d sell very well if Conti actually sold the things, but for some reason they won’t bring them to market.

The S-Works Fast Trak and Renegade are prone to punctures and also lack decent sidewall support for high speed, bermed cornering. But they do spin up fast.
