Hey all,

Been using XTR for years on MTB and gravel bike.

Is there anything similar in stack and Q factor worth trying?

Cheers

Unfortunately, every other common mtb choices are taller than XTR.
XTR's low stack height is almost only possible with cup&cone bearing. And everyone else other than Shimano don't like to use cup&cone. They use cargridge bearings.

That makes sense! Any recommendations on a better performing pedal or do you think XTR are top of the table? I’ve never had problems apart from squeaking noise with my Specialized shoes... and I regrease and adjust cup and cone occasionally.... just feeling like trying something else basically.

Cheers

Xtr pedals are great. But with my recon shoes are creaking too. I purchased the crankbrothers cleat plate which improved that a bit.

I also have xpedo mforce pedals, but they creak sometimes too with recons.
Sold everything, kept only gym membership and #S Crux '25 @ Force XPLR D2, Zipp 303 S XPLR

I also tried the plate. Seems to help a little. Its the rubber from the shoe rubbing on the pedal. Need to keep it oiled up pretty well. I removed some of the rubber on one set of shoes and replaced with some sikaflex smoothed over... worked well.

Are you open to having power on your pedals? The Assioma MX pedals are quite low stack. Function is very good too.

If I'm about to buy new pedals, it will be Xpedo CXR. Lightweight and easy to service, resonably priced.

Curently running HT T1.

I have Xpedo M-Force 8 with the titanium axle on my gravel and fat bike. Do have XTR on my Stumpjumper only because I was able to buy them inexpensively and they do work very well.

The M-Force 8 look good. How does the stack height compare to XTR?

I use M-force 8 Ti on our tandem and my touring bike. My wife has another Xpedo spd on her road bike. They work well enough for that application and are light, but the entry/release just isn't as good as Shimano so we use XTR on our MTBs.

The problem with the M-force 8 Ti is the cleat brass contact plate wears very fast, causing inconsistent and difficult release.

Switching to SH-51 single release cleats solves this. So far, no evidence the pedal body contact points are being worn down.

I have had a serach and didnt realise how many XC pedals there are.

Ive looked at Hope Union RC, HT M2, and Xpedo M force 8.

Looks like Xpedo M force 8 use SPD and not their own platform... this is a plus in my books on easly being able to get spare cleats etc.

Thoughts on comparing the above?

Cheers

I have had M-Force 8 on both my XC and Gravel bikes (modified for Assioma on the Gravel rig) for more than 2 years now, and love them

I am currently warrantying xpedo m force ti as one now spins in an oval instead of a circle (<1000kms, XC bike) Not sure if axle or pedal body is bent (likely axle). Before that very difficult to clip in.out if get dirty, and noisy unless lubed. XTR weigh a bit more but infinitely better. And I am a weenie at heart.
