Re: An hour at zone 3, is it useful?
Thanks for taking the time to explain this. If I follow your logic, then doing 10 hours at Z2 and a 2 hour hard session a week, would be a good way to plan out a week? What are your thoughts on how to measure progress and know when to increase the effort? It really depends on where you are in your ...

Re: An hour at zone 3, is it useful?
But the minimum, absolute minimum time of exercise you need to be doing for meaningful aerobic benefits (once you are no longer considered a sedentary person) is around 45 minutes. So if we are dividing 5 hours by 45 minutes, that's roughly 7 blocks of 45 minutes each. So let's say you do 45 minute...

Re: Aerobic endurance outpacing muscle endurance?
So if you wanted my suggestion firstly I would look to increase your ride volume. And secondly I’d take a step back from complicated training theories and focus on really hitting the basics. Those being volume at low intensity, consistency and rest. I would develop a routine which fits around your ...

Re: Anyone doing cycling specific Yoga?
Flexibility alone won't help you in the drops unless you have a strong core to maintain that position and effectively transfer power. The core creates a stable platform for your legs to do work and maintain the aero position. Obviously having a gut really hurts in the drops as well :) Indeed  ...

Re: Anyone doing cycling specific Yoga?
Stretching (which includes yoga) is always a good thing, assuming you have the time for it. Increased flexibility can make your rides more comfortable, make your recoveries easier (not faster though) and generally make you feel better overall. Another thing I would highly recommend is a structured ...

Re: Anyone doing cycling specific Yoga?
I stopped stretching before and after cycling and can't say I noticed anything negative or positive. One of the things that does help me after cycling is using a foam roller, so I tend to do that, as it helps get rid of some soreness. I also use compression tights after which I think help. I'll stre...

Re: Anyone doing cycling specific Yoga?
I do the cycling-specific Adrienne one too, and have been for the last few months. I do seem to be able to go deeper in to the stretches as the weeks go by, but I'm yet to really see the benefit of this on the bike Not sure if you have seen this Dyllan Johnson analysis on the published studies arou...

Re: Why am I so attracted to expensive bike stuff?
It's par for the course for all segments, take guitars, they seem to love old stuff and want you to buy new stuff constantly. The most expensive guitar you can buy is a 1959 Les Paul (artists own guitars excluded), but each year they bring out a new model or pedal that is so much better than last ye...

Re: Anyone doing cycling specific Yoga?
Just reporting back, I tried the Adrienne post run and cycling yoga videos. Must say I enjoyed them, not for complete beginners I think. She has a great presenting style, so I will check out her other videos as well.

Re: How do you all cope with patches of bad weather? How do you continue training?
I don't go out in bad weather, don't like the rain. In the UK winter it get's dark early, so I don't like going out. Even with the best clothing, I take into account the braking distances and visibility, mine and drivers on the road, so I don't want to take the risk. Maybe I am too risk averse. Also...

Re: Why am I so attracted to expensive bike stuff?
Because we buy into the marketing BS. Maybe at the very elite level shaving hundreds of grammes will make a difference, but for the vast majority of people, it won't. Upgrading is useful when it improves your comfort. But despite knowing something new won't make a bit of difference, I still want it....

Same as other have said, they stay in place, comfortable without the elastic around the waist. I didn't get the fuss either until I tried them, now it's bib's all the way for me now. Shorts for the indoor trainer only now for me as well.

Wow, never know about Gyes. The Rivet's are expensive in the UK, so might give Gyes a try!
