The new bike is my Javelin Torgiano: 13.3 lbs complete.
+ Very smooth ride; quick handling; hand-made quality; stealth looks
- Not uber-stiff; probably lower resale value than Parlee/Crumpton/etc.; Centaur shifters feel a bit soft

Image

Specs:

Javelin Torgiano - 55 cm.
Centaur 09 shifters
Tiso Sereo rear derailleur
Zipp Vuma Quad compact crankset
Record Brakes with Swisstop pads
Lightweight Wheels
Syntace F119 100mm stem
Syntace Racelite 44 c-c bars
Control Tech iPost 31.6
Specialized toupe 143
Tune Cage

Thanks for the great advice, found in this older thread:
http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum ... n&start=15

I've only ridden a few dozen miles, due to the snow, but the ride quality is sublime. Very impressed so far. And the cranks roll really smooth!
Oh, and to pre-empt the flames, the flat pedals are for daily commuting.

I never thought I'd see those pedals on a Zipp Vuma Quad crank!

You have so many nice bikes. I can't believe you use this for commuting.

Another beauty. Love the font on the Javelin decal. Also noted there are a couple of holes on the lever, which on the Centaur's is not specified. Have you taken a drill to them like I did with mine?

It makes me hurt inside to see such a dirty bike... especially with lightweights (albeit them being "standard" version) and Vuma Quad cranks.

Cippo, nothing against you... I suffer all the same when guys on local group rides show up with 2009 model bikes that have collected a inpenetrable layers of crap on their wishbone and seat post.
I just imagine the harsh wipe to get the s*** off, and the scratches left behind.

I might be anal about cleaning my bike, but the resell value is thereafter.

Other than the dirt, nice ride!

A lovely bike, yes, but why do you commute on tubulars let alone Lightweights? It is amusing to see those pedals on a Vuma as well.

No offense, but you remind me of this guy-

Ok, a few things to respond to...
Bug - Commuting on it is my only chance to ride during the week these days - it's almost dark when I leave the house and dark again by the time I get off work. It rules.
KB - No holes, though I think your bike is frikkin spectacular. Those are standard Centaurs - the light is just reflecting weird. Yours might be ww of the year for me.
Mav - for sure! I like the ride of tubulars, and keep the front wheel in the office. Gets some funny looks on the elevator.
Sacke - Point taken, but when I clean, it is with care - no scratching problems so far. And that dirt is from a single day of riding.

And Backroad...
- I work hard
- I have no kids or car
But, more importantly, I have bought almost every part on these bikes used. I have pieced these together bit by bit, over years. It's hardly going to the car dealership to by a Bentley, or the LBS to buy an eight grand Colnago, though those bikes rock as well.
For example:
- I bought the ZX3 on group buy for about $400,
- got the Waterford used from a guy with no clue what he was selling for about the same,
- Bought the Fondi for $200 with a broken bb and then had it sent for repair,
- Got the Javelin from a fellow ww, and sold him my old Merlin
The wheels, and other assorted parts all have similar stories.

So, rather than just being a hater, why not ask how I assembled my collection on such a low budget, rather than comparing me to some billionaire with 8 yachts.

Cippo - on your last point, well said.

What does it matter how people spend their money. Some like fast cars, boats and other things considered status symbols. Others don't by choice even when loaded with money.

If we have to be utilitarian about bikes we would all be on sit and beg's with a basket in front and there would be no need for this site.

I'm stuck away from my good bikes most of the time, so the 80 odd days each year I'm in the UK and able to get out on my bikes I ride with my LW's on.

Personal choice.

Usually on something a bit more durable, but I do use the nicer wheels about half the time. The low-pros are old Mike Garcia handbuilts primarily.
I ride about 40 minutes per day on my commute, easily my largest portion of consistent time on the bike, so I figure I may as well enjoy the trip!

Whew! That puts my mind at ease.

Apologies for my first post

That is certainly a Big Pimpin' bike regardless of what wheels you run.

You are a smart man Cippo (or really tall woman?)!

All my parts are used as well (except for the seatpost/handlebar stem).
Stay away from the ladies! They drain your account (but worth every penny)!

Hahaha! True that - but my lady is worth it for sure ;) she lets me keep all the bikes!

And no worries backroads...I do see your POV.

The pedals, by the way, are Keywins. Very light, reliable, a bit of float...and I like supporting the little guy!

My wife only lets me have two bikes at a time
