Cancellara will make an attempt on the world hour record.
Moderator: Moderator Team
Just read this on cycling news-good to hear that someone is trying again to beat the world hour record. Best of all, it will be done just around the corner of where I live

Drink on left turns.

Well, let's wait and see. Hour record attempts have a habit of being postponed then cancelled. Cancellara may be a huge talent for road time-trialling but the athlete's hour record, assuming that is what is being proposed, turns out to be a tough proposition and Canc wouldn't want to go into it and fail.
Would be good to see the Sosenka record surpassed, his subsequent doping +ve puts a question mark against his ride for me.

So the top 3 of the UCI Hour record is:
Sosenka 2005 49.700 (but..)
Chris Boardman 2000 49.441
Eddy Merckx 1972 49.431
I wonder what bike FC would use if he attempts it.

I guess he would have to use a Trek

Do Trek make good bikes [for the hour record] ?

Think the bike used has to be of fairly standard construction (like Merckx used) to comply with the UCI rules for the Hour, all modern aero technology is out so Trek would probably have to build something special for it.
Noone makes good bikes for the Hour. It will have to be custom built and then badged up as a Trek. If you read Michael Hutchinson's account it gives you an idea of what is required to meet the criteria.
Hutch also used a skate helmet becuase it was more aero

Sorry. My comment was a joke. I thought the 'Do Trek make good bikes?' thing was well known.

Also the long position that both Hutch and Boardman ended up with, after aero testing, means a very non-standard frame geometry.
I thought it would be allowed to use a uci compliant tt frame just without the extensions? Isnt'it just the extensions that are being banned?

Probably not allowed.
The rules say a bicycle 'similar' to the one Merckx used.
Up to the UCI to decide what similar is.. Grey area. But most likely a traditional frame.
