Just went from R300 to the R320 and though not many miles on them, really liking the R320. I did drop down from 42 (300) to 41.5 (320) and they feel about the same length wise. New Shimano insole is much better. Going to have them molded next week, but out of the box they feel pretty great. Thanks for the info on this thread. JT

There will be a all-blue, limited edition of the 320.

Available in Europe in a month or so.

Is this what Kanstantsin Sivtsov from team sky was wearing in this years Giro?

Anyone with the white R320s, are the mesh panels easy to keep clean?

Cheers

These are size 46 with cleats. Great comfortable stiff shoes! I find the sizing the same as my other Shimano shoes.

the mesh panels are very fine, as with anything mesh, dirt can get caught around the edges

My R320 are the best shoes I have ever had. The new insole provides instep support.

The mesh can get dusty easily. I have used air compressor to blow out dust from inside out.

The material in the heel cup works great. The tounge lays flat

+1...shimano shoes are the only shoes that I don't have to crank all the way to get rid of heel slip. And many shoes I have tried even when I do crank all the way, I still have minimal, but noticeable heel slip. I think folks have just become used to heel slip on other shoes and just live with it. With shimano, I have no heel slip at all.

Cheers guys.

Yes I suffer from heel slip as well in most shoes. I found older Sidis to be very good but the newer models don't have enough toe room for me.

Has anyone tried mounting speedplay cleats to theirs yet? I've had problems with previous Shimano shoes in larger sizes where the adapter bolts won't sit flush and obstruct the cleat. Mind you the stack height of these shoes and PD-9000 pedals may have me going back to full Shimano again :-)

Sorry to resurrect a thread from a few months back. For those who have had the R320 for a while now, have there been any additional comments/criticisms on them? What is the durability of these shoes like and would you consider the price different above the R170 (which i am lead to believe are similar but not custom fitable) worthy of the premium?

On a side note - I tried a pair on (to replace my 1st pair of cycling shoes) and have noticed that i am able to fit a pair of 44's in contrast to my regular 45 size. The comfort, despite only for 15 mins in store fitting was very superior to my existing shoe and the sole was very stiff.

I've been using these since June (I think... yeah, early June).
Initially my concerns were mostly surrounding the relative lack of rubber on the sole at the heel, worrying that it would wear down rather quickly.

Positives:
-Wonderful fit, incredible heel grip.
(On that fit: I have wide feet with low metatarsal volume. Arch is taken care of by custom insoles.)
-Hardly ever need to adjust mid-ride, but when I need to it's very easy
-Very well vented, which is great for those hot days
-Easy to clean (I have them in white)
-The rubber on the heel hasn't worn down as much as I thought it would.
-Supremely stiff, but not too stiff (like Bonts, which made me realize I personally don't like too stiff).

Negatives:
-White is nice, looks pro, but I wish they had more colour options available. A red/black version would look ridiculously mean. An all black version would be another wish. Seriously, Shimano: more colors!!
-That venting that's great in the summer? A detriment when the temperature drops (winter riding). I wear booties/overshoes and that compensates.
-Non-replaceable toe and heal rubber bits.

Are they worth the price? Definitely.
Would I buy more to stock up? Definitely, especially if they had more colors available.

I may have found 'the shoe' that I'll be using for years to come.

(BTW - if anyone wonders how they compared to the DMT Prisma 2.0 that I'm currently selling, the DMTs are fairly narrow (or maybe normal?) in width, and the sole feels a bit stiffer than the R320 from Shimano)

+1 the R320's are great, have been wearing mine for over 6 months, using them everyday, but they still look like new.

Your paying that premium over the lower models for the ability to mould them, but the moulding of the shoe itself requires a vacuum pump and a specialist shimano dealer to do it, the inner soles can be done at home.

I find they are super comfortable without moulding, I accidentally found out that the rear heal tabs would be replaceable, as one side came loose, but I don't think Shimano is selling the replacement pads.

The heel t-bar and carbon heel cup helps everything stay in place, so all over a very well specificed and durable shoe

IMHO better than the top of the range Sidi's and Lake's, with the bonus of being cheaper.

If you were set on using speedplays, I would definitely look at the Speedplay specific model(4 hole sole) of the Lake CX-401, this would allow you to take full advantage of the Speedplay stack height.
The kanagroo hide upper is like wearing a leather glove, also the sole and heel cup is mouldable at home using a normal oven.
