There I was getting all excited What no pics
Here are a few pics, more to follow. The frame has been sent off to be repainted by a company called Paint My Bike, Wheel parts are about 2 weeks away, Chris King R45 hubs with HPlus Son TB14rims in polished silver. Wheel will have drive side spokes tied and soldered. Dura Ace 7800 crank is being polished as it has a few scratches. I'm looking for some classic style skewers to go with the retro look.
I have had the bike over 21 years now, this is its second refurbish. i have decided to upgrade to DA 7800 as I have the groupset in good condition, and with the alloy cranks, levers etc it will fit in nicely with a retro build, but give me 10 speed compatibility with my other wheels, cassettes etc, as well as being one of the smoothest shifting groupsets around.
Weight should be around 9kg, which for its era is pretty decent, considering the heavy 755g fork and 308g saddle, and the weight of a quill stem, the HPlus Son rims (500g) are about 35g heavier than the DT R1.1's but when building a bike like this weight is relative. The "look" of the bike is also important and matching the parts for a modern but retro bike without any carbo bits.
I could have gone for Stans Alpha 340 rims for lightness, but this is not what this build is about, although I am trying to keep weight down where possible.
Pics below show original paint and 105 groupset, black version was powder coated (big mistake) with Dura Ace 7700 and DT Swiss R1.1 rims on DT Hugi hubs

Very nice iterations!
For powder coating is there any concern that the powder coating temperature will change the temper of the steel?
Hence why I'm not a fan of powder coating aluminum and steel frames. Especially ones with really fancy alloy mixes.

Powder coating typically uses a curing temperature around 200°C, this is not enough to change the cristalline structure of steel.

@beebee30 - that was just before its first rebuild. Saddle and bike had been sitting in the shed a few years and looking pretty sad

Collected my wheels today
Chris King hubs (pewter) 11 Speed compatible 28h front and rear, DT Revolution spokes front wheel and rear NDS, DT Comp on drive side, tied and soldered for that real classic look.
Rims H Plus Son TB 14 polished silver
775g front, 919g rear (1694g total) which is only 34g heavier than my Zipp 404 clinchers ( pre FC with aluminium brake track)
Not an ultra light build, but they were not designed to be extremely light, but to fit a theme, and look classic while offering benefits of a 23mm rim and I went with 11 speed hubs in case I want to use these wheels on a new build with DA 9000 in the future. The rims alone are 500g each, with Chris King hubs weighing 102g front and 218g rear.
The H Plus Son rims look fantastic, and are beautifully finished, with a really nice machined brake track. It will be a few weeks (5-6) before I get to ride these, as I'm still waiting for my frame to be painted.
