I am moving on from my first road bike, a 2010 Specialized Allez, http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=104468.

I have lusted after various steel racing machines from the likes of Speedvagen, Independent Fabrications, Firefly, and Baum but knew that I would most likely never afford one of these frames, nor have the riding ability to justify owning one. I am a purely recreational rider. However, I have to admit that aesthetics are a huge part of the attraction to a bike, most likely given my field: architecture. That along with the joy of a project build have led me to a 2013 Ritchey Road Logic frameset. I've always wanted to try a steel frame. I love the juxtaposition of deep wheels and skinny tubes and I love the color gray. It was pretty much love at first site, especially when considering the MSRP of $1300, half or so of what a custom frame would cost.

My stem and seatpost are currently at the painter (getting painted to match the frame) and in about a week's time my new ride will be built up. In the meantime, here are some shots of the my new frame. Size 55. The tig welded frame weighs 1789g and the uncut fork weighs 371g.

Wow. Thanks gents for all the compliments. I am looking forward to this as well. I hope she will ride as good as she looks.

I will be doing a SRAMano drivetrain with a mix across all levels.

SRAM Red Levers
SRAM Red Crankset
SRAM Force Brakes
SRAM Rival RD (eventually this will be a Force RD)
Shimano Dura Ace 7800 FD
Shimano 105 12-27 Cassette
Shimano Ultegra Chain

Full build list is here. She's coming in a little over 18lbs right now but that is before the steerer tube is cut and the excess cable/housing is trimmed. Eventually the goal is sub 18lbs and further down the road, hopefully sub 17lbs.

Here are some shots of the cockpit:

Ritchey WCS Logic Curve alloy bars. 42cm. 233g

Ritchey WCS Stem. 110mm. 119g. Currently at the painter.

Ritchey Pro embossed cork tape. 52g.

Here are some shots of the drivetrain:

SRAM Red Levers. 323g with brake cables and hoods. This figure will go down once the cables are trimmed.
Image

SRAM Force Brakes. 285g. Not pictured as they are installed on my current bike.

SRAM Red crankset. 760g with BB. Not pictured as they are installed on my current bike. I will be replacing the stock rings with the older Force style rings in Tungsten gray as I feel they suit this build better. The pair of rings weighs 122g.
Image

SRAM Rival RD. 185g.
Image

Shimano Dura Ace 7800 28.6 clamp on FD. 80g.
Image

Shimano 105 5700 12-27t Cassette (a victim of the budget). 259g.
Image

Shimano Ultegra 6700 Chain (a victim of the budget) 268g.

Last but not least:

Deda Superzero Seatpost. 27.2mm. 199g. Not pictured as it is currently with the painter.

Specialized Romin Expert Ti. 143mm. 212g. I lucked into a NOS version with the black accents at my LBS. The 2012 models had white along the central relief channel.
Image

King Stainless Cages. 98g. Porkers, but classically styled. I couldn't justify the Ti version at 3x the cost.

Not pictured are the wheels, tires, and tubes, which will be: Reynolds Assualt carbon clinchers, Michelin Pro Race SC 23mm tires, and Contintenal Race28 Lights (60mm valve).

Loving it !
I wish ritchey made a hardtail with those dropouts and that colour. The 29er comes with sliders, such a shame, ur road bike on they other hand, stunning !
