Hi everyone,

I have been looking at the new Castelli SanRemo speedsuit and am intreagued by it. There are several reviews on this (links below) but I was wondering if anyone on this board owns this piece of kit and how it has worked for you. Thoughts on sizing are appreciated.

Thanks!

LOVE IT!!!!!

I find myself coming up with excuses to wear other clothing, otherwise I would wear it on every ride. I wear it at least once a week, and on every big ride. It is by far the most confortable kit I've worn. Even better than my body paint bibs. Sizing is the same as the body paint bibs, and in line with most Castelli clothing I've owned.

Bought it for $250, but would have paid much more now that I know...

Pretty much agree spot on with what was said in the review. It's really the best bit of warm weather kit out there. I originally bought it b/c it was "aero," but now the comfort it provides is the main reason I wear it (not that I don't love the aero effects it has as well!). Also, since I don't typically ride with a saddle bag and stuff everything into my pockets, I never unzip the entire way b/c I hate the feeling of a flappy, swaying jersey. With the Sanremo, you don't get that at all as the back of the jersey is sewn onto the shorts. It's awesome being able to unzip the whole way on a climb.

That being said, it's still a matter of preference when it comes to chamois. I love the Progetto x2 chamois in the high end Castelli bibs, so the Sanremo works for me. YMMV. The jersey part is definitely fitted, but not quite as sausage tight as a typical Castelli aero jersey. And the bibs (at least the suit without the red stripes on the legs that is only available in Europe) are super soft. Most comfortable set of bottoms I have as well.

I tried to only keep it a 1 set, as it's expensive, but I ended up buying 2 so that I wouldn't have to feel like I had to save it only for special / longer rides. I wear a size small, and am 5'7" / 150lbs FWIW.

I have not tried it, it might be nice for racing, but would not bother for training rides from a purely economic point of view since jerseys normally last maybe 3-5x as long as shorts. I would try before buying as I used to find the body length in skinsuits would often require tailoring as short stocky people and tall thin people can both take a size Large.

I am sure I got a faulty one as you can't do up the zipper unless you hold your thumb over the clasp at bottom of zip - I guess no one else has this problem?? (would hope not!) - It's on the way back for replacement!

Anyone going to get the CX version and use for winter road racing??

Medium - I am 6ft and 73kg or 160lb - fit is good!

This is good feedback - thanks everyone! I am attracted to the aero-ness of it, but honestly at my speed the comfort will be the real advantage.

I currently ride the Assos UNO and I hope the Castelli pad is as good.

I am around 150 lbs and 5'10". Any thoughts if a medium will be best?

I am 5'6" and 130 pounds (168 cm and 59 kg) and wear the size small. It fits great and I like that it is tight and aero. The jersey material is extremely lightweight, but I haven't had any problem with the pockets sagging, though the heaviest thing I put is a full bottle in the middle pocket. However, I prefer the older Castelli Kiss3 chamois pad over Castelli's current Progetto X2 chamois pad. The X2 is a bit thicker and less minimal, so I don't like it as much as a thinner minimalist pad. It soaks up a lot of sweat which I guess is good, but it also seems to dry out slower.

Well, it took me 8 months but I finally got a Castelli Speedsuit. I ordered a clearance of last years at a good price, but as it turns out they were out of stock. They called my wife (she ordered as a birthday gift for me), told her it was a mistake, but offered the new 2013 version 2.0 for the discounted price. Horray!

Image

I asked on the Castelli website how the 2.0 was different from last year and they said "we have updated the torso fabric to a faster from the 1.0 to 2.0." I got the white to try and keep cool.

I've only done one ride at 20 miles, but I'm in love! What a wonderful feel. The shorts are very comfortable. The pad is a bit bulky in the centerline, but I like how the edges taper more than my Assos Uno so I have less chafing between side of saddle and thigh. The shorts also slide against the saddle better compared to the Assos, which grabbed. The sliding of the shorts on the saddle helps 'things' to stay in the same place throughout the ride.

It is very comfortable! I didn't really notice it being that much cooler, but time will tell when I start to ride in hotter months. I did notice air going around under the arms which felt different from a conventional jersey and was cooler. The fit along the back and shoulders is outstanding. No flapping fabric - it lies down perfect. The pockets are well placed. The very thin edge at the shorts boottom edge feels great and looks neat.

The only negative is I have a hard time getting this thing off. I can't do one arm or shoulder at a time. I have to get both shoulders out but at that point it's a struggle to get the thing pulled down off my back. I'm sure I will figure out a better technique.

The Medium size was perfect for me - 5'-10" and around 145 lbs. I wouldn't consider another size up or down.

Another positive experience here. Don't expect to get a lot of durability out of it, and for rides more than 3 hours I still prefer my Assos thankyouverymuch.

But otherwise, it's as naked as I've ever felt on a bike...in a good way :-D

Fwiw, 180cm, 76kgs with bigger shoulders and pipes. Large works great for me

I liked the 1.0 facbric better. I bought a seperate Body paint bibs and Aero race jersey in the first color way at the start of this post. That stuff fits like it should, it almost feels wet when putting it on and it clings to your body, very nice. I ordered a new San Remo suit, just waiting on it to be the best of those two pieces put together and it is not. I wear the mediu, in both and I can say that the speedsuit has a good bit of fabric bunching at the front the the new fabric does not feel like the other kit.
I still wear it and race and train in it, but it does not fit like the two seperate pieces do.

Anyone else who is 187cm/78kg who can share what size they wear?

Dammit: I'm 186cm/77kg and have everything Castelli in L. Every garment I tried fits nicely and snug. Not tried the San Remo though. If in doubt order both and send one back?

My only concern is that if you rip the jersey or shorts, it's game over for the speedsuit!

Lafolie that is a concern no doubt. Teammate crashed in his and although he can go out and train in it, it is basically trashed now. I think I am going to stick with the two piece kit and use mine for week night training. The two piece kit just fits me better and now that I have seen that Castelli are releasing a new 5.0 version of the jersey, I will more than likely go with that.

All this being said, I am extremely pleased with my Castelli kits, they feel better than most everything else I have had on.

Now I just need to start stocking up on winter items.
