Hi people!

I m curently using a 11/34 XT 9 speed cassete and a 22-32-44 crankset. i 'm thinking of going to 2x9 however my training includes steep climps at 22% for long distances (i swithed to 34 from 32 for this kind of training) and the ideal for me would be a 11-36 9spd cassette and 24/38 chaingrings. Is that possible? going to 10 speed system is way out of my budget so i'm looking for the cheapest solution.

Any suggestions?

No-one does an off the shelf 11-36t, people have replaced te lowest gear on a 9 speed with aftermarket ones of ones off a 10Speed (using cheap dismantleable cassettes), personally I'd stick with an 11-34 and 22/36 to keep your lowest gear.

nothing standard 11-36, but you can get the HG61 12-36 in 9 speed.

Recon make an 11-36 9 speed cassette but it's not that easy to find.

Or, have Matthias make you a 20-tooth titanium granny chainring. Mine worked great for those 22% "stepladder" climbs.

If I were you, and buying a groupset separately, I'd skip 10-speed and go directly to 1x11.

I used to run a 36t cog on my 2x9 setup, without getting the heavy 12-36 Shimano cassette. I got an 11-32 XTR cassette, removed the 11t, got a 12t lockring, and behind everything I added a 9sp cassette spacer and an Action Tec 36t cog. Worked pretty well. I'd been using a 42/29 up front and needed just that little extra gear. the 36t made all the difference.

That TOTALLY WORKS! Cost? About $40USD....

Thanks for the reply guys!

I liked the 36th cog from Action Tec, and the price looks very nice (looking the post above). However looking at their site the 36th cog was 94usd which is too expensive for me. Am I looking something wrong?

Thank you in advance!
