Front derailleur clamp/adapter and chaincatcher
Moderator: robbosmans
Hello,
I need to install front derailleur (Campy Record 11 braze on) and chaincatcher but but I don't know which one to choose:
CLAMPS:
parlee clamp
http://www.parleecycles.com/store/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
ratio clamp
http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/r ... ook-28436/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
mcfk
http://fairwheelbikes.com/mcfk-front-de ... -3676.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
or smud
http://smud-carbon.eu/fd_clamp.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
CHAINCATCHERS:
Deda Dog Fang
Fibre-lyte
http://r2-bike.com/Fibre-Lyte-kettenfae ... her-carbon" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Rotor
Token
or K-edge solution:
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/k-edge-braze-on ... er-sl-kit/
Which is the stiffest and ...safest?

If you want something that you know will last forever and not let you down, go K-Edge. They're sturdy as all hell. Of course they're about the heaviest, too. I'd say you can go carbon on the clamp and stick with alloy on the catcher.

It's more of an insurance thing--if your chain accidentally drops onto your nice carbon frame mid-stroke, you'll be in the market for a new frame. I'll pay the $15 now to save the $1500+ later.

I found another carbon clamp:

but still I don't know if carbon clamp is good choice - safety and stiffness.

If you are running Campagnolo, the Campagnolo version is really nice. I have it on my latest Lotto -Belisol bike and it is vert compact, as compared to K-Edge. The Deda Dogfang is also a very good option, if it works for your frame.

agreed. I have the first-gen units, but i hear the second gen units coming out are supposed to be better.

The only thing better than the K-Edge in my book is Sram's catchers.

There are a bunch of carbon FD clamps, some are pretty cheap, as on eBay. This one is for $19.99.
Shimano 31.8mm 34.9mm Carbon Fiber Front Derailleur Braze On Bike Clamp Adapter
If this works, it is a great weight savings/gram opportunity. If it doesn't work, then it would be a potentially costly mistake. If this is WW, someone should be posting here to tell us what works!
I'd like to get the Campagnolo chain catcher for my Athena 11-speed triple with a 30t inner chainring. But who to ask whether it works on the Athena triple? I can't even find a listing at the Campagnolo site.

I'm using an Omni racer carbon derailleur band clam and a KCNC chain catcher with Record FD. Shifting is fine. The Omni racer clamp cost $25 on eBay. The KCNC weighs 19 gram and has independent adjustment without affecting the FD position.

I purchased a Rotor chain catcher but it didn't come with a bolt. Anyone know which size bolt i'd need? It's to be fitted to a braze on Campagnolo Super Record 11sp front mech.
