The Flo 30 is more like the Zipp 101 rim below... which oddly didn't do that well for aero in Tour's testing.
I will say that our brake to rim transition is less abrupt than the 101. Not sure how the 101 compares to the FLO 30 but I will say that our tests showed the FLO 30 doing quite well.

Chris, Are these going to listed on the website for sale or is it a 10PST pre-order? I need two sets.
Cheers, Norm
There hasn't been a direct comparison but our aero data is available for the FLO 30 on our site and the explanation of how we tested is on our blog.
The first round of FLO 30s will be sold during Pre Order 6. This is our first production run so there will be about 50 sets. We will be ramping up quickly after that and plan to have about 700 sets available by Aug/Sept of this year.
Take care,

1585 grams for the set. That's our standard build... 20 front spokes, 24 rear spokes. The clydesdale version (20 front spokes and 28 rear spokes) should be about 30-40 grams heavier.
All the best,

This was recently posted on slowtwitch. no rider info so can't comment there
http://forum.slowtwitch.com/forum/Slowt ... _P4648824/"Bottom line: These are the ultimate do-it-all wheels for the amateur road racer on a budget. At $500, it'll be a wheelset that you would dare to race in crits (and yes, the grip feels pretty good on these wheels, although given that i was riding on new tires, I didn't push it) without slowing you down too much when the road turns upwards. It'll be comfortable for training, and will leave you fresher for the end of long hard races. For almost a third of Zipp 101s (which would be the most comparable wheelset out there right now). "

How much do these rims weigh?
The Pacenti rims seems to be a great combination of a wide aeroish rim at ~450 grams. But they are low profile. So I'm wondering if the Flo's are under 500grams
What is the most commonly used Al clincher rim depth anyway? Seems 25-28mm is most popular, but is that because of weight vs stiffness/strength?

I'd guess that the Flo 30 rim is well over 500g. You can build a set with the Pacenti SL23s that <1400g with lightish hubs.
I think the Pacentis are right at the sweet spot for optimal aero and weight combined. A rounded and wide rim doesn't need to be that deep to be aero. The Flo rim may be a bit better in that regard, but they won't feel as nimble.

The wheels are about one metric ton. 710g Front, 875g Rear.
For a 30mm clincher, that is kind of on the overweight side. Wait, this is weight weenies, let me rephrase, these 30mm wheels are obese beyond belief.
Considering I just built a set of 40mm aero/wide chinese set that came in at 1400g, makes you wonder.
Maybe they are bomb proof, don't know. I appreciate these guys putting time/money to develop their own wheel to call their own, and wish them success.
But the manufacturing process and weight need serious addressing IMO to make these a more competitive option, at least around weenie ville.

I wouldn't go that far... rims are probably in the 530g range which isn't bad considering their depth, width, profile and price. Compare to the DT585 which is narrow.
If weight is very high on your list of priorities, then of course these aren't your wheels, but there are loads of people riding around on wheels that are at least as heavy, more expensive, and have the aero of a brick.

How do you know they are aero? Do you have data to back that claim up? They could be 40mm wide drag machines...
I have not ridden a pair of these Flo 30's but my best friend just got a pair and they look well made.

How do I know? Because the profile is nearly identical to the Bont D3, and 5mm shallower than the Zipp 303 FC same profile, hence, they have proven the shape with wind tunnel testing. Nothing more to add there right?!?!
If you can prove contrary, please do. But the shape is proven in the Wind tunnel and matches Bont's D3 40mml. So, they are aero.
In fact, it is safe to assume the 40mm wide profile of my generic rim is close to that of the old 404 Zipp design at 58mm. Zipp proved that with the 303, and comparisons of the HED/Bont/Zipp all show very similar drag tunnel testing.

Sorry, nearly & only 5mm shallower does not prove they will perform in the same way.
It's a bit like saying a Chinarello Dogma looks like a Pinarello Dogma so it must ride in a similar fashion.

Go look at the profile and data. Not going to argue something that is out there based on reality and fact if you do some searching.
I provided you with the information, look at Bont Aeolus 3 D3 aero numbers, as well as Zipp 303 FC they have publicly provided.
Since the HongFu is a 40mm toroidal shape, and the Bont 3 D3 is 35mm, and Zipp 303 FC at 45mm, one can safely surmise that they are aero in similar respects. Not a scientific stretch to make that assumption extrapolating their aero numbers they have provided publicly on their designs.
Seek and 'ye shall find!!

Zigmeister, you sound very naive. It's well known that very small changes can have dramatic effects on aero performance.
