Hi to the forum, and thank You for all the tips n tricks !
I am Soren from Denmark (Copenhagen), and I like to go fast in the city.
I have been a secret reader here, for a Very long time, and I just became a member last year.
This is My first post and My first Weight Weenie.
The Post is gonna be somewhat long, as the assembling is just beginning.
edit :I just learned that my New Cranks are delayed a bit, so I'll post here for days...
But I promise some surprises along also.

I am Building a "2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R" - with a Chris King Nothreadset, and rimbrakes.

The Frame I love : The 2003 S-Works Stumpjumper HT 21" mint condition from US.
And it weighs in at... 1596gr. (I know, not the lightest, but I will compensate, with some very light parts n tricks,
to get the weight down.

I started collecting parts for the bike in June 2012, and I have changed my mind many times, before getting a new part, - only to find an even Better part a little later.
Not an absolute lighter part, but "lighter" and "better" goes hand in hand, a long way. - Then they separate, and "lighter" can start walking with "worse".
I like LIGHT (but some parts can get too light, and fail catastrophicly under stress).
I like Carbon, but not : Where it's not needed (no weight loss), or where the parts gets ruffed and scuffed, resulting in invisible cracks, leading to instant failures.

As seen on the stem Photo, I will use the Ritchey WCS 580mm UD carbon flat bar weight 136gr.
It is not made paper thin ! it actually sounds like a bell when knocked on. I'm not afraid to fracture this.
But if any surface-scratches/dents (not the superficial top coat scratches from clamps), then the bars will be changed !
-Can somebody tip Me what metallic bars to get in 31.8, lightest possible ?
More parts, and thoughts will follow soon.

Ritchey bars have a fine track record. Ritchey is a Very large supplier Worldwide. Brands this size, take very much care not to produce failing components. They risc to much (dollars income), from bad reviews.
Ritcheys Lightest (carbon) bars is the SuperLogic 2013 flat 600mm at 130gr.(from specs).
-I have seen, and read about, Instant Fractures of ultra light carbon bars (below 100gr). -Some even looked homemade, but wasn't. The riders NEVER trust these "Wonder" brands again, after a traumatic crash !
I can't "go max riding" with these thoughts in the back of My head.
Therefore I don't pick "The Worlds lightest handlebar"... to RIDE ! (Maybe for showing off, or for a record light build.)
My Ritchey WCS 580mm Wet Black Alu bars (Photo) says just below 170gr.
But as said, I trust this producer, and will try the Carbon version first (136gr).

Soon, the lighter parts will be pictured.

Saddles are like shoes ! If it's a perfect fit, You can buy more without thinking. (some feet have the "Adidas shape", some uses only Nike... (I have Nike feet, - No Adidas for Me !)
And I also have (developed) a Selle Italia butt !
- since 1992, I have only ridden Selle Italia's FLITE ( Design and function is legendary).
They are light.(in the 1990's) 210gr - 240gr.
The first Flite Evo (tp1), looks stiff, but sooo soft to ride. 150gr. +/-3gr.
Is this light enough ? -Maybe.

I have also tried the SLR... Also a perfect fit for My bony behind (Selle Italia shaped).

So I got the SLR Tekno full carbon.. Super Pretty design, Top funktion, Low weight. 95gr.
Again, not the Worlds lightest, but from a Very trusted Company (they know how to make strong saddles).

My seat post is not Carbon. (I was once told by a pro, that he changed the carbon post every race) ! I cant afford this every week ".
The Thomson Masterpiece 30.9 , 350mm, setback , ti-bolts , weight 181gr. (same as many topbrands carbon ditto).
And its so easy to adjust.

The Headset..... I can only say Chris King.
He makes an oldfashioned, not stylished, NoThreadSet ! - But it Works, and thats the important thing.
I have used Cane Creeks (never had any problems at all), and the last couple of years I have used CK's.
They are Ugly (no design at all), but after a while they get nice to look at.
I think the look is made from " only necessary material used", -and that's why it's getting prettier in time...
-Anyway, the weight is 84gr (fine enough) .
I am waiting for some parts from Germany (small carbon treats).
The Mfck carbon kappe (cap) with alu M6 bolt total weight 5.6gr
The Crown Race I will use is a titanium 5mm !! height. I have only the sellers spec. 11gr, but I will weigh My fork soon (with this 5mm crown race).
Here some CK pics.

Now I must start to save some bike-weight ! I know I can beat the factory Ducati 1199 R Panigale (165kg +17kg gasoline=182kg.)
I have, after 25 years, understood that I actually only use THE LARGE CHAIN RING.
Here in Denmark, in Central Copenhagen, we have separate cycle paths on the roads. Not on all the really small ones.
And everybody own one or more bikes ! Much faster around than any other Means of transportation.
And we SALT these bike-paths (and the roads as well) in Winter time !!! Huge amounts (tons and tons) of concentrated NaCl - eating all normal types of metal n alloys, creating crystals when dried abrading rubber seals...Very sad.
4-super-rat-ducati-s4rs-salt-racer (500x333).jpg

This Winter-salting, often "coroded" My front derailleur so it couldn't move correctly, but I NEVER really missed the middle- and granny ring !!!
Therefore I have used the 1x10 /(9 at first) setup for 6 years now.
- And the "Ducati" will also have 10speeds !
Weee eeee !! -I saved some good grams, with this move..
- So here is MY FAVOURITE Rear Derailleur : The "Very hard to get" RED 2011 SRAM X9 tp.1 with (i know it can get shorter) Medium Cage.
20130424_030934 (620x447).jpg
20130429_001113 (580x435).jpg

I will tune this derailleur with all the treats. More later, when I have all the fine light parts.
(this X9 tp.1 version, is so tight and smooth, that I suspect it's "made in Switzerland ")
I haven't tried the SRAM XX rear , but I can understand it's a safe bet too. Lighter, smoother, BUT NOT THE RED COLOUR !!.
Three parts on Bike are Red. - Frame, Stem and Rear mech. Like stretching the hole bike a Little...
Late night now here. More will follow.

The X9 10sp. shifter. Just a solid feel, and nice precision in fingertips (Looks like an old-school black Pentax camera "Winding the film forward for the next picture").
-and it shifts almost the full range, from one juicy thumb push. -Worldclass- !
Only the clamp-bolt can get lighter here...

Hey there, nice red project you got going there! And Copenhagen is sure a lovely place to cycle with all the dedicated bike lanes that many cities can only dream about. I lived there for 4.5 months and I really enjoyed cycling around the city (even on a rusty old bike). But I must say it is really expensive to do any sort of servicing for bicycles in Copenhagen :S

You have a nice and rare frame with the v-brake option too! I hope you're going to use v-brakes? Looking forward to admire your finished build :)

Hi Hiddenstar.
I live 100 meters ! from the Parliament (and Royal Castle) Christiansborg.
One week ago, The government Decided to close the drive-through-road at the Parliament (My street), resulting in ONLY bikes/mopeds, can pass here now ! (affraid of terrorist in vans/trucks, leaving the vehicle(bomb) behind.
Great Idea ! I've had a silent week, SO NICE. Bikes will own the roads soon.
And All the Danish politicians already ride bicycles when at Work, even the Prime minister !
I see them daily ! -and they greet back when I salute them (I'm a potential voter, so they better act nice).
-And Yes I will Mount the Best rim-brakes known to man, on the "Ducati"
The original 1199 R uses on front Wheel : 2x Brembo radial monobloc (double)calipers and 2×330 mm (13 in) semi-floating discs....Imagine : 330mm discs -and then two of them... Comming soon for MTB's in a lighter version !
I like to brake late, and I like stopping-power in excess !
-And all without ANY noisy sounds....

My choise of brakes : The Magura HS33 tp.1 version2. - Neon Orange (urethane top coated) , All bolts now in titanium (even the special mounting bolts QR), Carbon boosters (Very rare in mint condition).
Pads are for Ceramic rims...

Cool, you live in a really nice area in Copenhagen! I used to say at Porcelaenshaven. And wow, hydraulic rim brakes... I wasn't expecting that :) (I'm a supporter for V-brakes)

I noticed you tried to start this topic in the WW section, so I assume you are going for a light weight built? How heavy are those HS33s though?
