Koen- We are no longer twins :( Yes I am recovered. That sucked! I need a lower stem than the -10 PRO. Any ideas?

Nice... to get lower you could get a -17 degree stem. Also, don't know how set you are on those bars, but classic shaped bars will allow the levers to sit lower still as well. Those two changes would get you signficantly lower both on tops of the bars and even more so in the hoods than you have now. Personally, I really like having the highest hand position on the top of the bars next to the stem. Then on the hoods (a bit more aggressive) I like to be lower. Then, the lowest of all and most aggressive in the drops, but all accessible and comfortable. What I really don't like is bars tilted up and hoods pointing to the sky, so that your hand position is actually higher on the hoods than it is on the tops of the bars. Conversely, I think it's silly to have such a large saddle to bar drop that you can't even use the drops effectively. Why even have them then. That said, cockpit setup, like saddles is kind of a personal preference thing. Enjoy the new bike.

get your hands on a Specialized adjustable stem for the time being. Heavy and not pretty, but you can dial it from -8 to -16 with the shims. Find an angle that works and then go from there. Have you tried a bar with a larger drop and just use the drops more?

Hey Nathan!
Sorry about the Dogma. Can you tell us what happened exactly? Did it crack at the place where it was repaired?
The C59 is gorgeous. My next bike will definitely be a Colnago.

Well, what is there not to love about a Colnago?

I'm always intrigued by lugged carbon framesets, especially on Colnago (both new and old).

Unfortunately I can never fit on a C59 in traditional geo unless I opt for a sloping toptube, which is something I
will try to avoid on a Colnago..

Love the built, new bars/stem combo looks perfect.
Enjoy the ride!

Hi Maverick,

What about the C59 limits you from finding the right size in trad geo?

I was just up at Red Rocks a few weeks ago- spent 8 days in Golden riding and managed to get engaged on a remote spot of Lookout Mountain. Good to see you riding a finely dialed in bike again.

coloclimber, sorry to hijack your post..

@ irongatsby,

To answer your question,
The smallest size for a C59 in traditional is a 52, which has a 53.0 toptube, 74.5 seat angle.
Due to my physical attributes, I can ride it but won't be able to enjoy the advantages of a Colnago (its handling) if it is mounted with a 90mm stem. Therefore the only option available for me is a 45s unfortunately.

Here's a thread on my C50 PR38 in size 52, sold it due to sizing issues
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=83791

My C50 is a size 51, which has a 52.7 toptube, and 75 deg seat angle.
The Master 55 is a size 50 traditional, with a 52.3 toptube and 75 deg seat angle.

Cheers!

My apologies as well. Coloclimber, how would you compare the ride characteristics between the C59 and the EP?

No sweat guys- any Colnago talk is fine by me.

KWalker- I am glad you got to enjoy some good climbing. Sorry we didn't get to ride.

I find the C59 to be less forgiving than the EP. It is more firm in the front end end and that translates to more stiffness climbing, sprinting and cornering, but also more feeling the bumps over gravel roads. Its a race bike and the EP would be my choice (if I was wise enough to keep it) on looooong rides. Don't get me wrong though- I have ridden the C59 for 6+ hours and it didn't beat me up like a Cervelo S5 or Time RXR did- it is just not tops on comfort. The C59 is certainly my favorite climbing bike and since what goes up must come down- it can carve with the best on corners at speed. The Dogma was preferred over gravel roads though. That thing could be ridden forever and not miss a beat.

I think the C59 looks cooler with the ribbed TT and DT but I liked the look of the leaf chainstays on the EP more than the box on the C59. I love the lugged carbon frame feel.
Finding the right wheels makes all the difference. The shamals rode really harsh and the CCU's add some comfort and stiffness to the ride. Boras were optimal on the EP for me.
