I'd thought about that, but I'll probably bin the q-rings and go back to compact when I switch. Don't think the aesthetic of the q-rings match campy.

Send me a PM about the cranks. Was on the fence about Athena/Chorus.

Ok.....wanna drop some weight for free to cheap.

1. I have a veloflyte bearing cover on the way and I will slam the stem and cut the steerer.....should drop some grams there.

2. I haven't looked at the seatpost yet, but I assume there is some room to lop a bit off for some more free savings.

3. My hoods are a bit tatty, so I was going to try out the tube-as-hoods trick for some more free weight there.

4. Thinking about moving on some Planet X brakes. Definitely some weight savings over the Ultegra kit.

Any other ideas?? I am using Specialized S-Works bar tape.....any savings to be had there?

Try out the innertube as hoods thing. I'll be posting about my findings a bit tomorrow (need daylight to take a few more photographs)
The Planet-X brakes are pretty great.

At this point your drivetrain as a whole is the weight penalty - and that ain't cheap, unfortunately.
But, in due time, when your pennies are saved, you'll get what you want.

That's exactly why I'm doing this.....want to get as light as possible now while I await the group upgrade (Campy or SRAM red). The weight is probably centered around the levers (400+grams?) and the cranks (550grams for the arms). I am sure the Q-rings aren't light either.

Frankly, I am amazed I got to 6.8 with the relatively heavy Ultegra kit.

My 53/39 rings came in at 153 grams for the pair.

what a lovely shaped frame, lovely balance to the build mate. Have you thought about the dark grey ultegra crank for aesthetics longer term?

Thanks!

Yes, I am all over the road on group upgrades.....I had been interested in a Campy 11 upgrade to either Chorus or Record; however with the new Ultegra 11 I may go for that depending on price. Winter 2013 is pegged for the group upgrade, so what's available will make the decision for me.

truly great build... That frame is beautiful, very nice fuji. I like how it's evolving. I think changin the silver pars would be nice. Also, if you want, you could sand the fsa parts to matte black and make it full stealth, but like this it's already nice. I like the H sons rims, but why did you removed the carbon ones? Also i would leave the antares saddle and remove the carbon thingie.
Happy Trails !!!
