Retro Photo: Tour de France 1992 St12 Dôle - St. Gervais

Friday 17 July 1992 and I was on the Salève above Geneva with my brother to watch stage 12 of the Tour pass through, a long stage that took the race into the Alps. Still using the Mamiya 6 but this time with colour slide film. In summer midday sunshine the shadows are deep and I could have done with a more powerful flashgun to get light onto those tanned faces.
There was a two-man break well in advance. The second rider here is the eventual stage winner Rolf Järmann of Ariostea. Not sure who the Banesto rider is, anyone know? I can see my brother in the crowd in the right, somewhat sadly since he died in a cycling accident in 1999. He's wearing the Cannondale top. He didn't have a Cannondale but the loose cut suited his fuller figure.
Secondly the GC group here being led by Claudio Chiappucci followed by Big Mig and Gianni Bugno.
No other photos readily to hand of this stage.

Nice pics..memories are precious. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for identifying Fabrice Philipot.
In these photos from 91 & 92 you can see the odd bike with STI but mostly the things we take for granted now were still to come. Except EPO... which from recent reading would seem to have gained a firm foothold in the peloton even then.
