New WW advice pls

Hi

I'm new to the forum, i asked a few WW questions on another forum and was directed to you guys & Gals

Basically Ive never been a WW in my history of MTB ownership but after spending my bonus on a new 29er
and feeling the benefits of losing some weight i want to try to go a little further.

Id say my riding is spirited XC/trail center work and i weight 70kg so id like to keep the bike fit for purpose.

i have previously owned 26er's ranging from sub 1K hard tails and a range off 2K full sus 140-150mm travel bikes

The weights above where measured on my cheapo ebay luggage scales, does this sound about right ? can anyone recommend better scales ?

So how would you shave weight of my bike ?

Ti bolts ? (which ones ?)
Ti skewers ? (which ones ?)
Wheels ? (looking at easton EA90 XC 90 claimed saving of 329G)
Lighter toolkit ? (i shall weigh it this weekend)

I think you've added a bit more weight than that....
Hope head doctors are a waste of time and money, stock bolt/cap/SFN is lighter and once the stem bolts are doen up doesn nothing anyway.
Ideally you need to weigh a lot of the bits to understand how to shed weight, Ti is pricey and not necesarily the first port of call.
The lighter wheels would be well worth having.
Do you use all your gears? a 2x or 1x10 conversion will save some weight.
Lose the 1980's bar ends and switch to foam grips, that will knock about 200g off.

Biggest bang for the buck: wheels.
Most expensive upgrade: wheels.

I would first recommend you dump the 3x10 setup, and move to a 2x10. This will drop the weight of the extra plate, and remove some of the duplicative gearing found in the 3x10 setup. Odds are, you never ride the big ring anyway. To do this, you'll also have to replace the left hand shifter to a 2-speed model, as well as the equivalent FD. No weight advantage to speak of for the later two, but necessary.

once that is done, look at the wheels.

^ there is only one XTR shifter, there is a small screw you turn to convert between 3 and 2 speed. You would likely need a new front mech though.

If the budget allows, carbon wheels will be the biggest noticeable improvement I would say. the EA90's aren't even 100 g lighter than the EA70's. The EC90's are quite a bit lighter though.
