I saw a picture where Calfee hacked an EPS unit and put it in a handlebar/stem combo. It was uglier than the wart on the downtube.

I think it's meant to be trickier as the brains are also in the battery pack. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please. I'm sure there is a reason why it hasn't been done so far

It looks like it's nuclear-powered.
Calfee should work with Gruber and develop the GNA - Gruber Nuclear Assist. I think that would be just the ticket for Cancellara this year, as he needs a little something extra.
Yeah the wart on the frame is definitely better, Yuck
Has anyone tried mounting it under the bottom bracket?
Seems to me one could possibly take advantage of the cable guide screws for attachment.
Also, it would be at the lowest center of gravity.
I'm building up a new bike and looking into this method as an alternative.
Even where it is currently mounted, just under the bottle cage, never really bothered me though.

Yep, me and many more has done it or almost under bb. Movistar team new Dogmas has battery under BB also.

All depends on where the frame manufacturer has point the mounting holes.
Colnago puts it under the down tube right in front of the BB on the C59. Trek has a messy world record on the new Madone.
I have read that Campagnolo has a seat post mounting standard coming. I just wonder where the charge and diagnostics ports will go. Maybe they'll put it all inside a Campagnolo post. That could be elegant.
