So I am in a quandry ; following the sale of my ribble and taking into acct my budget i am going for either a Cannondale Supersix 2012 with Shimano 105 ( like the pedigree and bb30 ) with Aksiums for £1350 or Canyon Cf 8 With Athena 11 spd for £1700ish.

Where should I bung the cash for an upgradeable 'best bike' . My Cervelo S1 will be the winter steed from now on. I ride for fun normally 30 milers, ave 17mph, max rides are 100 mile sportives in spring/summer. I weigh c 200lbs.

So I am now decided on the Canyon, does everyone think that the extra £300appx for the Athena / Ksyrium Elite version is good value over the 105/ Kyrium Equipe version? I run Campag currently but nervous over the 11spd and maintenance etc.

Yes!! Very worth it in my book. The Elites are much, much better than the Equipes....and 105 v. Athena 11 is a no brainer.

Sizing should be really easy to figure out as stack and reach is readily available. Good call on the canyon!

Given that the Canyon is £350 more than the C'dale I'd be tempted to get the C'dale and trade the new Aksiums. Add in the £350 and you'd get decent wheels (DA C24s?)

C'dale with 105 preferable to Canyon with Athena in my book

Cannondale Supersix is an uncomfortable beast imo. Fast but not great to ride, especially on UK roads. Take the Canyon. And Athena beats 105 hands down.

yep this is the sort of thing that keeps me awake at night! To my door i can get a ssix with 105 and aksium for £1350. The Canyon is £1775, so maybe £125 trade in worth for the aksiums gives me true cost of cannondale of £1225, so £550 for wheels which puts me in c24 territory or similar i guess.
