Needing new pedals
Moderator: robbosmans
I am looking for new pedals.
I bought mavic zxellium shoes. Current pedals look keo classic.
Pedals I am thinking.
Look keo blades carbon ti
Look keo max carbon
Speed play stainless axle
Are mavic pedals good or just nonsense.
Oh and I weigh 165 and 5' 10 178cm

It depends what your goals are. What's most important to you? Durability and perfect function forever? Dura Ace. Personally I just went from Speedplay to Time Xpresso and am very happy with the decision. Superbly light, easiest pedals I've ever clipped in to, at a great price point. Pedals are very personal and a lot depends on how much adjustment you want ad the rest on your priorities. You won't lose a road race because you chose Look, Time, Shimano, or Speedplay, that's for sure.
I like Time myself, but that's what I've really always ridden so its hard for me to ride other systems, especially speed play I have really bad knee pain with. The original iclics fell apart, but the new ones are better. I did try the Ti Mavics and they are actually very nice. Very similar to LOOK in functioning, durable, stiff, and well made. Mavic and Time are now in some sort of partnership to produce a new pedal line based on the I-clic, so Mavic has discontinued their pedals, and cleat availability may be an issue down the line.

I like the Time I-Clic II, as well as the new Xpresso pedals.

I vote keo blades carbon Ti. no issues for me so far, wide platform and light. However, i did some preventive lubing as the stock lube is a bit ... insubstantial. (yeah i jammed several grams of grease in there)

Another vote for blade ti. The first time you click in and hear that perfect loud SNAP! you'll never go back. It's also an innovative new system without the crazy looks of time.
I think speedplay are terrible, way too small and I don't buy the whole "pedal is on your shoe."
Time up until recently I have heard many horror stories about. If they couldn't make a god pedal before, why try them now?
Dura ace are good but heavy.
Carbon keos would be good if you didn't want to shell out for the blade ti, or even save a hundred and get the steel blades. Those or the carbon keo

I decided on mavic race sl ti pedals. They are dirt cheap on eBay and well I have the shoes so it should go together real slick. I will let you know what I think!

Just the chance to utter my dissatisfaction with the Keos. Have them on several of my bikes in various price ranges but they are equally bad.
- All pedals have develop play in the bearings
- All pedals have various degrees of play between cleat and pedal, with all my shoes and no it does not help to tighten the spring load.
- Cleats wear down in no time.
Not recommended.

Hi,
Clipless pedals were invented by Look. After that this concept has been improved upon by Time.
As much as I dislike to downtalk one brand and praise another I'm religiously convinced that of the two brands mentionend Time innovated and perfected the clipless pedal way beyond to what the guys at Look did.
Horror stories about Time? Hearsay is not something I'd put in writing but then we don't all live by the same moral standards.
Granted, the I-Click series wasn't the hit Time expect it to be but as you can see companies like Time will correct the cock up and what's of utmost importance they'll always service whatever you bought from them and do it so that whatever you pay for a repair is nothing more than logistic expense.
No, Time sets standards and adheres to standards. All of wihich are far above and beyond current consumer expectations.
Quality, not quantity is the standard.
No offense,

Being a snob is an expensive hobby.
If you like Keo, check out Xpedo Thrust 8 Ti. Look compatible, light and cheaper than Look for the same weight. Pez wrote a detalied review. I've been happy with mine.
