Question for kylefoo: I’m interested in the FarSports 38 clinchers and have noticed you are using CX-Delta spokes now vs. the CX-Rays. Can you tell me what the difference is in spokes?

Elvis, 38mm clincher wheels can be built with both CX ray and CX delta, the latter version is our after market design/Customized by Sapim company. same in weight, although little different in shape.

FWIW there is some alarm spreading over in RBR about quality control. I'm still proceeding with my build.

Well, its not new news from what I've read in all these hundreds of pages on various forum threads. Nor do I think there is any sudden uptick in failures. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

Think we need a comment from kylefoo on this?

Hey all! I am currently looking to get a carbon wheel under a budget. So i came across far sports carbon wheels, currently interested in their 50mm carbon tubular. I was pretty taken a back by the number of hubs i could choose from lile : novatec, bitex, yuhub, edhub ceramic and ofcourse the more expensive but reliable 240s.
Thus i would like to get some advice from you all regarding which hub will ensure that i do not spend too much and yet get a pretty good quality from it?

Thanks, cheers!

I had an email conversation with Kyle this morning in regards to my order and he stated that he would post a responselater today or tomorrow in regards to the issues some have been having. The issue with my order for the 24mm width, 50mm height wheels was with the rim bed and not the brake track according to him. Let's hope everything turns out for the best.

I always question it when people say things like "I know of at least 10 other failures" etc etc. Sure they were all Farsports? Also did you have your pads set up correctly? I could go on.

It's so easy for things to get sensationalized when things go wrong for someone on the internet. My farsports clinchers have been great and Kyle was great.

Regardless it would be good for Farsports for Kyle to respond on here.

No they did NOT set the pads up correctly (depending on timing and age).....the instructions (when they remember to send them) state that you may only use Reynolds cryo blue (or xiamen far's own blue pads which I'd imagine come from the same factory). Not only does this seem to be Xiamen far's requirement, but it massively improves the braking over "bog standard cork pads" <--quoting one of the guys who melted/killed his rims.
I have actively tried to melt mine and had no luck so far though they have started squealing which is doing my head in! The surface where you could set your pads up is deep but you aren't supposed to use the outer 5mm. Having said that....generically, Chinese QC is a killer for their reps and is why most people ignore them. I'll be seriously annoyed if their QC has gone dodgy recently as I've just recommended them to a pupil of mine and if they fail, I'll feel compelled to replace them for him. I have never ridden mine in really terrible weather (mild drizzle is the worst you'll catch me out riding in!).
If they don't fix this quickly, Farsports will join my "banned" list.

Thanks for the reminder. Here is a Farsports summary as posted on velobuild:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Carbon Fiber Wheels Guidelines
1. Recommended Maximum Weight for specific wheel sizes:
187lbs/85kgs for 24mm profile rim
209lbs/95kgs for 38mm profile rim
220lbs/100kgs for 50mm profile rim
231lbs/105kgs for 60mm profile rim
243.5lbs/110kgs for 88mm profile rim and cyclocross specific rims

Note: wheels, rims, and hubs are NOT warranted for use on tandem bikes.

2. Recommended tire pressures by rider weight

Recommended tire pressures by rider weight for tubular
Rider weight Front psi Rear psi
Lower than 128lbs/58kg 108(7.45) 112(7.72)
128/58~150lbs/68kg 114(7.86) 118(8.13)
150/68~174lbs/79kg 121(8.34) 126(8.68)
174/79~203lbs/92kg 130(9) 135(9.31)
Over 203lbs/92kgs 140(9.72) 145(10)
DO NOT exceed 145psi/10 bar

Recommended tire pressures by rider weight for clincher
Rider weight Front psi Rear psi
Lower than 128lbs/58kg 107(7.38) 110(7.58)
128/58~150lbs/68kg 112(7.72) 116(8.00)
150lbs/68~174lbs/79kg 115(7.93) 119(8.20)
174/79~203lbs/92kg 118(8.14) 122(8.41)
Over 203lbs/92kgs 122(8.41) 125(8.62)
DO NOT exceed 125psi/8.6bar

3. Recommended and approved brake pads
SwissStop yellow pads
Farsports blue pads
Bontrager cork pads
Failure to comply with these recommendations will void your warranty.

4. Recommended braking area for clincher
5mm lower from the circle edge, braking area is about 11mm

5. Recommended run-in period is about 200km
From our experience, we found that it is not suitable to do long descent for new wheels with new brake pads.
Do not use it for long descent and High strength braking during run-in period

Are the new 25mm Carbon clinchers available as rims only does anyone know?

And will they be available in 38mm/60mm profiles too?

Think they only have the 50mm versions on their site.

I've got a couple of sets of hubs and one set is begging for some carbon clinchers I think.

PS (probably wrong thread given the title) but are there any other chinese/taiwanese manufacturers selling rims of this profile (new 'U'-shape?)
